John, do you pause the first rep just to nail the groove that you want, or something else?
I didn't really think about it. I haven't competed in over two years. Old habits I guess.
How is retirement treating you, John?
It has been pretty great but a transition at the same time. It is easy to think of it as a destination, but it is really just a change in state. Same person, just a different setting. I have immensely enjoyed not having the work responsibilities, but at the same time there is a lot of time to fill. Rather than being a challenge in terms of thinking of activities, the challenge has been deciding where I want to focus my attention. You can't do everything. This coming year I plan to do more ADV motorcycle riding, downhill and nordic skiing, fly fishing, and running, while pushing for a PR in bench press (at the least). Plus we will move into our new house this coming year. Busy. That being said, I moved somewhere where I don't know anyone but my wife. It would be nice to meet more people, but that would mean getting involved. Historically I'm not a joiner. Most of my communications with friends and family are online/phone. My wife has gotten really involved in tennis here. That has been good, but making friends is more important to her than it is to me.
That's awesome, John!
I think I'll be in the same boat as you with respect to my time. I have plenty of things I want to do in retirement, but being able to do them all may not be feasible.
Bench Press
275 lb x 3
285 x 3
295 x 3 @ 8
280 x 3 @ 7
280 x 3 @ 8
Notes: e1RM = 155/341. I planned to do more, but I was pressed for time today. Good bench session today.

i told my wife you were peer pressuring me....she said i have to wait til im 50. i suppose her logic is that if i die now, she will have to take care of little kids that are still a pain in the ass, all alone. i guess once the boys are over 18 im chopped liver all the sudden? haha in all reality, my 18 year old is telling me he is gonna buy a crotch rocket and the only thing keeping me sane about it is the fact that he works at a sandwhich shop and spends all his money on video games and myonlyfans so he will never be able to afford it.

My wife has never been a fan of my riding. But I usually just get the silent treatment for a little while after buying a new motorcycle. It goes away after a while. However, your wife has a good point. When I first started riding about 12 years ago, my wife increased my life and disability insurance.
