Started paying to get coached by Hanley (template option). I am logging my workouts on my own personal word doc (as usual) and on the TrueCoach app so I am not going to log the workouts here too. That's just too much work. However, I will review my experience here once I've been doing it a few months or so. I just started so nothing much to say yet as far as numbers/results. But I will say that Hanley has been great as far as creating a template that fits my schedule and circumstances (he moved bench press to non-squat days because I am susceptible to elbow/bicep pain caused from that combo), he made weekday workouts shorter due to my work schedule, and he responds to any questions I have fairly quickly. I also like the TrueCoach app he uses. It's also no secret that he does not force people to do bone-on-bone grinders and after two workouts I am already appreciative of that. So far so good, I'm feeling positive about it. I'll check back in after a few months.

So everything has been going well. I have not hit any official PR's but I feel like I might be strong enough to do so. I'm just not testing maxes very much, which I'm fine with. I'm 42 (almost 43), so I don't need/want to grind out reps very often and I'm not expecting miracles, I just want to be as big and strong as my genetics will allow and I have confidence that Hanley can do that. Anyways, just wanted to update things since I said I would, I'm very pleased with the coaching, worth every penny.

Okay so I finished my time with Hanley after 20 weeks of coaching. I really enjoyed his coaching and always looked forward to the new workouts. That being said, I actually ended up weaker. When I finished RTS Guided Programming I deadlifted 460 and now I'm struggling to pull more than 430. I think that Hanley is a very good coach for his style of training but, as he acknowledged, it just didn't work well for me. I don't regret using him as a coach and I'm glad I gave it a shot. I also would not hesitate to recommend him for someone looking to try the higher volume, lighter weight programming philosophy. So what am I doing now? I've found that I really enjoy having someone smarter than me do my programming because I'm busy enough with other things that pay my bills and I'm old enough that I don't want to waste a bunch of time experimenting if I don't have to, so I signed up for Andy Baker's barbell club and I'll be jumping into the basic barbell programming. Wish me luck and I hope everyone's training is going well.
