From Shit to Suck
Hi everyone,
I recently joined this forum, although I've been reading some posts over the last few weeks. I figured keeping a public training log would be a fun experiment, especially as I lead into my next meet (11/2018). It's nice to have someplace to discuss training; I recently set up a home gym and use that exclusively, so I don't get much exposure to other lifters now. I used to log on T-nation, but that was years ago. I'll provide a little info on myself below.
Info
Height 5'7"
Weight typically 200-210 lbs (93 kg class)
Age 27 years
Powerlifting focus
Really just your typical fat, boring powerlifter
Best lifts
Gym
Squat: 515 lbs
Bench: 365 lbs
Deadlift: 660 lbs
Meet (11/2017)
Squat: 220 kgs
Bench: 142.5 kgs
Deadlift: 297.5 kgs
Total: 660 kgs
That was my first meet since college, and it was fun to get back on the platform, but I definitely left some kilos there on squat and bench. I somehow managed to pull the state record deadlift, even though someone has set the bar higher now. It'd be nice to get that back, but I'll settle for what's there on meet day. Training has been going pretty well lately and I hope to showcase a better total in a couple of months.
I generally love talking training theory and lifting in general, so if that's something you're into, ask away. I'm sure I'll spend more time on the programming forum in a bit.

Figure I'll throw up some training I've already done this week.
9/16/2018
Squat w/belt 3x425, 445, 465 PR, 440
Bench w/belt 3x300, 315, 330 PR, 315
This was a surprisingly good session because I usually train poorly on Sundays. Hit PR triples on both squat and bench, so that was pretty neat.
9/17/2018
Deadlift w/belt 3x545, 585, 615 PR
Close Grip Bench w/belt 5x265, 280, 290 PR, 275
Another solid session. I've had to use straps on all my pulls recently due to a right-side lower back tweak. Backing off my usual mixed grip has allowed me to continue training.
9/18/2018
SSB Squat w/belt 5x365, 385, 405 PR, 385
Slingshot Bench 4x315, 335, 345, 330
SSB squats took more out of me than I was expecting and I didn't sleep as well as usual due to some life events. Slingshot bench was ok, but not exceptional; not every day is going to be stellar. Looking forward to training the rest of the week.

Squat w/reverse bands (doubled red) and belt 4x455, 475, 495 PR, 470
Bench w/chain and belt 3x225, 245, 260 PR, 245
Pretty solid overload day; definitely feel like I'm building momentum. This is the first time I've ever done reverse band squats, so it's technically a PR. I liked the movement and given the setup I was using, I estimate that the bands took off 4-7% off the the bar, which is exactly what I was aiming for. I think this movement has utility, but the data will tell over time.
For bench, I used 1 heavy chain per side that had about 1 link unloaded at the start. Each of the heavy chains weighs ~35 lbs, so that put me at roughly 20% chain weight, again exactly the percentage I was aiming for.
I record some of my workouts on Instagram, so if anyone is interested in that, just let me know and I can send you that way. I try not to make my profile too public due to some privacy concerns.

Squat w/belt 4x425, 450, 470 PR, 425
Bench w/belt 4x295, 310, 320 PR, 300
Pretty awesome Sunday. Added a rep and 5lbs to last week's PR triple at 465 and chipped a bench PR with tighter technique. Overall, things are really moving in the right direction.

Deadlift w/belt 4x535, 4x560, 4x585
Bench w/1 chain and belt 4x245, 4x255, 4x265 PR
No really impressive weights today, but still managed to hit a mental PR. I normally train before work at around 5am, but it was just not happening today. Went in to lift and couldn't break 495 off the floor. But instead of having a breakdown and freaking out, I just planned to try again this afternoon. I didn't really do anything worth talking about on deadlift, but I came in, did the work, and left with a nice bench PR.

Squat w/reverse bands and belt 5x455, 475, 495 PR
Pin Bench (low) w/belt 5x275, 290, 300 PR
Pretty solid session. Going to keep this momentum rolling towards the meet.

Block Pull w/belt 5x550, 585
Slingshot Bench 5x315, 335, 345 PR
Undershot the anticipated volume on block pulls, but still got a few decent sets in. Think I'll need to adjust training in the future because the current model might not be sustainable, at least for pulling. Slingshot bench went really well and I'm happy with some technical improvements there.

Squat w/belt 1x495@8, 5x4x410
About a month out from the meet, so beginning the peak block. Beginning to add in heavy singles and will use those as determinants of progress and readiness. Volume will stay relatively high until closer to the meet, but the weekly setup will change to allow for more recovery between sessions. Today's session went well considering the outside stresses coming in. I'm in a good place to build into a potential squat PR.

Bench 1x340, 3x3x315
2-Ct Pause Bench 3x5x275
Pullups 3x8xBW
Pleasantly pleased with how the first bench single went. Went betltess and felt like it was easier to maintain position and technique. If it looks like volume is low, I'll be pressing 3x a week now and will accumulate volume throughout the other days. I'm going to try out heeled shoes on bench later this week and make a final determination on bench gear soon.
