Anaphylactic Squat

#1

Post by Chris » Fri Oct 06, 2017 3:10 pm

Hat tip, mbasic.

I am:
-Male
-31yo
-205-208lbs
-5'10"
-Generally mediocre

New forum, new program. I just started the 70s Big Weightlifting Transition template this week. My goal is to run it for 6 weeks, reset to week 4 weights, run another 6 weeks, rinse and repeat until I can no longer make progress. Or my wrists explode. I'm considering one tweak...alternating between RDLs and conventional deadlifts every other week.

weight x reps x sets because I'm not communist

Week One:
Monday
Sn 85x1x5
C&J 105x1x10 (90sec clock)
Ab Wheel x 14
Wrist Work

Tuesday
HBBS 225x6x3
OHP 155x5x3
Rows 135x5x3
Chin-ups x 14
Wrist Work

Thursday
C&J 135x1x5
Sn 70x1x10 (60sec clock)
Ab Wheel x 15
Wrist Work

Friday
FS 225x4x3
BP 225x5,5,8
RDL 285x5
Pull-ups x 14
Wrist Work

Anaphylactic squat. So you're squatting without protection? It's always safer to wrap it.

That, or I'm trying to picture someone going anaphylactic while squatting which is a quite amusing mental image for some odd reason.

Nice. I'll be following along as you all leave me in the dust :)

A set each of high-rep wrist curls and extensions with the bar, KB holds with forearms parallel to the ground and partially supinated, then stretching.

Just got around here. Your snatch from Monday looked pretty good to me. You're posting in lbs right?

Thanks, damufunman. Pounds not kilos - blasphemy, I know, but the gym only has bumpers in pounds.

I thought so, just checking. Looked like that should be 95 lbs not 90. I also have lb bumpers. Wanted to get kilos, but could find decent iron at a good price so stuck with pounds and Troy for change and extra 45s for squatting and deadlifts.

Get used to it. In medicine it's like half is metric, half is imperial. It makes no fucking sense. How many ounces in a tablespoon and how many millimeters is in that. In research, everything is sensible and metric.

Although I'll just note, it looks like you have jumped onto the more intermediate part of the programme, where one day is done medium where another is progressed heavy, rather than do both heavy. Was that intentional?

I was planning on doing both heavy on both days and then transitioning into alternated heavy/medium for each lift

From 70sbig:

As for progressing the lifts themselves, you’ll only make incremental jumps when you do train them. Something like 5 or 2.5kg will work. As with any skill or strength development, the rate of progression will slow as you advance. Treat your Oly work as a linear progression for several weeks. After the initial “baby phase” is over, you’ll do one of the lifts at a “medium” intensity while the other is “progressed heavier”. That doesn’t mean you max out; just continue the steady progression.

Yes. I should've noted in my first post, but I'm opting not to go "heavy" with both in one day because I've injured my right wrist a few times already trying to do too much too soon with the Olympic lifts. All told I've probably wasted a year of practicing the lifts because of it, so this go around I'm really going to ease into it - a situational intermediate of sorts - hoping my wrist will acclimate instead of explode.

Saw something weird like oz/kg a few weeks ago online for a chemo dosing protocol and questioned my life choices.

Block One, Week Two:
Thursday
C&J 140x1x5
Sn 75x1x10 (60sec clock)
Ab Wheel x 17
Wrist Work

My wrist is generally tolerating clean and jerks pretty well. Mostly focusing on moving better right meow. Here are the last two lifts for today:

Ha. #forearmsnotnatty

What do you do for forearms, brah?

I've had some awkward questions in the locker room about body parts I didn't think anyone really looked at.

Probably should've put #forearmlengthnotnatty. I can get my arms into a much better looking front rack position when the bar's on my traps.

The medial aspect of my left soleus sticks out a bit (you can kinda see it in the snatch vid above). Someone noticed that once.
