Rebuilding the wall.

#1

Post by Mindtowork » Mon Jul 22, 2019 11:33 am

so, I have been on my second run of SSLP, the first run a couple years ago did good things for me then life hit hard in the form of a demanding job and a baby so training has not been a priority. I've been running it again for about 3 months but have had 1 too many forced breaks already and am going to go off the script a bit and just have some fun for awhile as going back to the same old thing every time has just gotten too boring for me. after I screw around experimenting with some things for a couple weeks I will probably settle in to a greyskull style Lot of awhile.

feel free to comment or criticize as I work on rebuilding my strength and conditioning. thank you all for having me.

Welcome, @Mindtowork! I saw your other thread in the Training subforum as well. From your workout here, I assume you work out at a gym that's not at home. Is that right?

I also have a couple small kids at home and don't sleep much. I gets it.

Good. I ask because it always comes down to having the time with small kids. I was going to the gym 4 times a week for about 1.5 hours including travel, lifting, and showering, but then my wife got a different job and now I can go at most 3 times a week. I'm there about 2 hours per session. It's roughly the same amount of time, but makes programming different.

There are some threads about density blocks and myo-reps floating around--that's typically how I do all the isolation type work.

im In a small town to pretty quick to get to the gym. home gym is DEFINETLY o. the list someday. I may even get a bench and dumbbells soonish so I can do accessories at home as I have time. I'm actually going to start studying up on density blocks and myo reps but I figure I'll wait to incorporate them until I'm stallimg somewhere so that I have a nice variation to add to my routine

Welcome aboard! I love my home gym- started with a Sports Authority barbell set and maybe $60 of Home Depot stuff. When I was on the SS elongated rest program, I could hit a set, then spend 8-10 minutes rest playing with the kids or doing chores.

How does Andy Baker say to do the seated dumbbell press? I’m looking for that one cool trick...

nothing crazy just very strict all the way down, tilts the end of the dumbbell so it slides past the deltoid for an extra bit of range of motion. he says mechanics should be similar to abehind the neck press which he loves for people who can do them

squat-170 2x5, 1x4
OHP. 105 6x4
CGBP 140 4x8
Lat pulls 144 1x3, 1x5 4x6
DOHP 25's x8, 20's 3x10
DBBP (dumbbell bench press) 25"s 3x8 introducing these slowly for some chest volume as bench even at high (for me) intensities/volume never really fatigued my chest as opposed to my tris and shoulders so I figure I have a little room to throw some work in. I'll drop em or re program at the first sign of them affecting recovery
