All momentum entirely removed. Given the rep counts, I clearly was a pussy on the rest pause sets. Gonna get em next time.

Was super pleased with that paused bench single, though, given that I was touch-and-go-ing 275 before I got hurt. Actually felt much better, which makes me consider how fucked my bar path may get with normal reps.

Next time, begin new wave of pause squats, continuing to work with / push up the first few warm up sets, but drop the peak. The top single here was a legit pause, but a damn short one, and I don’t have the control that I did up to 305 or so.

Paused bench singles flew to a surprising degree. Good day.

Some of the earlier squats sucked. Realized, yet again, I had let my big toes come up and therefore was able to (and did) push my hips back too far.

Fixed the DB presses, full lockout/shrug on all. Likely tired out my tris, because the French presses felt heavy as fuck.

Had to take a call, got cold, wasn’t gonna warm up again to do flyes. What kind of fucking psychos want to talk any business the Wed afternoon before Thanksgiving?

Lifting weights without eating wheat is hell. Felt like absolute shit despite having had two meals and gotten great sleep.

My paused squats felt like trash for the first time in awhile, hence ditching the pauses and just hitting some reps after, and then ditching pauses for the bench press too. What seemed to feel good on both movements was making as if I was going to pause, but then not. That resulted in cutting depth by an inch or so on squats and keeping straight hips, and no sinking into my chest on bench.

Gonna stick with reps going forward. Need to remember that there is no reason at all for me to be working up to singles.

Skipped lying leg curls. Hamstrings torched since Friday. Definitely a result of cutting squat depth just slightly, because nothing else changed.

Notes:

Absolute shit. I felt great during and after my two abbreviated sick sessions last week, but then the cold became the full blown flu - completely lost weekend - and today was my first day back in. Everything hurt, felt heavy, and looked absolutely terrible. I can’t remember a time when my form was such shit. Despite all that, and the squats being a miserable failure on every level, session goal numbers-wise things were looking up until that dreaded 5,5,4 on bench. I fucking hate when that happens.

It would be dumb to make a decision on one awful, flu remnants session, and also typical of me to yet again switch gears, but during today’s shit it was hard to not remember how good the paused squats and bench presses I did for weeks felt. Maybe I’ll run those for 3x5. I don’t know.

Oh and I look like shit. I mean I’m always fat from beer and shit, but a few days of drinking multiple Gatorades and getting 10000% of the daily sugar allowance and my face is a balloon.

ETA: I know perfectly well that the reason that I never ran any normal rep scheme with the paused reps is that it would have meant decreasing the weights well below what my ego could handle.

My last few entries are a hilarious joke of indecision, but coming home to paused work felt great and everything looked right. Exception was the pullups which mostly were partials if I’m being honest, but I did a good job of keeping tight and got a sick pump, so whatever. Wanted to get back into some back/delt/arm work of the DC variety, but tabled for next session, for which I’m hoping to be 100%.
