Chasing Hippolyta Mommy Style

#1

Post by DoubleBreastedAmazon » Wed Jan 08, 2020 9:45 pm

Been a long while since I last logged my training here, since I figured pregnancy training wasn't worth recording. Now that I no longer hosting a wee ape in my uterus, I am hoping to get back to more regular training and logging (till I get knocked up again, that is).

I am currently 6 weeks postpartum and have been training sporadically for a few weeks now, but today I begin a more structured approach to training. For the current training 'block' I am going to be doing really basic shit to try and get my numbers back up and to facilitate weight loss. I am planning a 6 day microcycle (2 days on, 1 day off) indefinitely till I reach moderately heavy weights (for me that is 225 squat, 145 bench, 285 deadlift). This is my current goal, but I realize that with the baby and returning to work soon, this may not be feasible, but I figure its worth trying.

Great work. Obviously everything's okay physically with abs, loose joints and all that, good to see. So then you just have that sleep torture thing to deal with, and... all that other stuff. Kids.

Thanks, man! Yeah I am grateful that my body is rebounding. I was worried that I was going to develop diastasis recti, but everything seems to be back together now. :)

So far it's been quite manageable; she's quite an easy baby. Buuuuut, I am still on leave, so I can sleep as much as I want and whenever I want. I plan on going back to work in about 2 weeks, so we will see whether I can keep up with training once that happens.

Are you lifting in a brand new home gym? I remember you lifting at your university gym prior to ape#1. Home gyms rock.

Good luck with your postpartum gains!

Yeah! @OckhamsRazor (husbandito) set us up with a home gym. We hadn't anticipated be able to wing it, but I am so grateful we have because there is no way that I would be able to train if we didn't have it. Relatedly, I am trying to keep training sessions to under an hour and so far I have been able to do that, not that you were asking :).

I do miss training at the university rec center, oddly enough, but I don't especially miss training at the local joint we were at recently. Too much ego BS (all kinds of peacocking).

Thanks for the best wishes! I will deff need it once I get back to work....TBH not so confident that I will be able to keep up training at that point.

Today's session. Couple things to note 1. Squat form is still a bit hinky with my cork screwing, but my knee wasn't clicking today, so not sure what that's about. 2. Despite the baby weights, I've been getting low level glute/quad DOMS which is interesting, but I think the fact that it isn't dissipating much may indicate that I need to throw in a bit more recovery time. So far it hasn't interfered with training, but I anticipate it might...we shall see. 3. I am not losing weight with my current calories, so I need to drop them, though I am loath to do so; I do see some very small physique changes from last week to this week, so it hasn't been totally ineffective.

Prep Phase
Microcycle 2

Left is last week, right is this week. Still very much a pudgy monkey, but I see some slight improvements....maybe I am kidding myself...

It's obvious you've leaned out around the waist.

It is not an evolutionary advantage for women to be ripped while breastfeeding. Babies don't like skim milk. That may or may not be a factor for you as time goes on.

It's a week, come on :)

Yeah, I somehow forgot that I should measure my waist. Lo and behold I am down an inch from last week, so I guess it's doing something.

I have no idea what my body will 'allow' me to do while I am lactating. My sisters both experienced weight from lactating, but I have always been thicker than them and I think my metabolism is just diff then theirs, since I am deff not losing weight from feeding (and I am actually overproducing, so...).

Thanks, man! so far so good - she sleeps from 00:00-05:00 on good nights, and then from 05:30-10:00 and then a bunch of 1-2 hour naps throughout the day, so I have been getting a decent amount of sleep.

That's great!! One strategy my wife and I tried with our little ones was to fill them up as much and as often as practical during the day so they would, hopefully, sleep more through the night. It seemed to work pretty well for us, but just like all thing baby, you're mileage will definitely vary.

Yeah! I do a similar thing. Since I am overproducing, I use some of my existing frozen stock for an extra bottle at night, so I feed two times the normal feeding before she goes down for the night. Seems to work pretty well - though def not fool proof :). I see you've had two munchkins in short succession; now that we have the one, I am excited to try for more soon (12-18months from last birth). Was juggling the birth of the second with a toddler crazy hard?

Good session. Bench is feeling better and DL is moving along well - performed better than anticipated. OHP is good too. My sessions are slightly exceeding 1 hour, so I may change my microcycles to 3 days on one day off and add some more assistance/accessory work. Also want to start doing some cardio - going to do jump rope for this.
