^The fun backoff set. Took a dose of Haribo 15 minutes before to mitigate any metabolic unhappiness and did the reps in clusters of 3-4. No discomfort at the end and ready for 245 next week.
I missed this - awesome!

Please stop making me want to do 20-rep squats again.

Oy vey I'm back....Went on a work trip to San Diego and caught COVID somewhere along the way; strongly suspect the Lyft driver who took me to the airport and spent the whole hourlong trip talking about how much he likes going to Tijuana for orgies. Probably caught some other things from the seat of his Prius too...

Anyway, so I was feeling a bit off for the past two weeks but it was nothing worse than a cold. I did keep testing positive however which kept me out of the gym until today when it finally turned negatie.

Was feeling a bit out of sorts but ate a bunch of gummy bears washed down with coffee and water and did:

Squat:
45lb x 10
135x10
225x10
315x10x2 RPE 8 or so. Cut it off here to be smart

DB OHP:
25lb x10
40x10
55x10x3

DB shoulder circuit (front raise, lat raise, reverse flyes)
20lb x10x3

Low back felt fine. Let's see how the DOMS is tomorrow.

Still alive, still negative. Anecdote: Remember my insane mother who has appeared occasionally in the past? Well I visited her a few weeks ago before I was symptomatic and gave her my 'rona. In an unfortunate coincidence, she also had a psychic tell her long ago that she would die in 2022, and instead of, say, seeking a second opinion, just accepted the diagnosis at face value. Well, now she's convinced this is how she's going to go, despite the fact that she has now had all the jabs and is actually already recovering from her mild symptoms. She asked me what she should do so I told her to stand in traffic if she must fulfill the prophecy, which I guess she didn't appreciate because now I'm banned from visiting.

Today:
Feeling basically recovered from COVID and the DOMS in my legs wasn't too bad:

RDL whaaaaat?? (with shrugs at top because never pass up a chance to train traps):
20kg x a lot
70x10
90x8
110x6
140x5
143x5 RPE...8
110x10
It's fine.

A lot of these came from a series of gay bars (Wasn't my idea but according to one of the flaming sales guys, I am "a strong ally, and kind of gay-adjacent" so I'm down). Touched a lot of dongs and had a lot of guys touch mine and....welp as much as I'd like to be unconventional, not even the hottest guy in the room did anything for me when as I stood there cupping his sweaty balls through his translucent banana hammock. My coworkers suggested optimistically that maybe I should try blowing him to get into it more but alas, one look at two hot girls making out on the street outside
mostly confirmed what we all already knew.

Tested negative so I worked a full day in the lab for once and was kind of drained by the end. Wanted to see where my bench was at and ended on:

45lb x 20
135x10
185x8
205x3
225x3
245x2 (bar hit the pins at the top of the 2nd rep and the spotter had to take it)
225x3
235x3
225x3x2
235x2 (tired)
185x10
135x20

Still solidly in the LMAO-2-playt club after COVID so that's good I guess. Back to marching to 315....

Squat:
Decided to use the bumpers for funzies (recall this gym is a PL gym, not WL, and there is only 1 set of the things, which is usually reserved for actual SN/CJ) and it felt kind of different (better) than iron plates for some reason.

20kg x 20
70x10
110x10
140x10
150x10 oy vey.... RPE 9 or so
140x10 RPE also 9. Legs feeling rubbery and I had to take a step forward and sort of lunge the last rep to completion

Squat again but the program shifted to a strength block. Legs pretty tired from the other day but we'll keep trying.
20kg x 10
70x10
110x6
140x3
150x3
160x3
170x3 RPE...8 ish? Heaviest squats in some time and feeling a bit more like myself again. Could have gone for more but I woke up with a sore back today and didn't want to chance anything.

Raised rear leg split squat
45lb DB for 4 sets of 6, each leg
^Doing these in slow motion and really focusing on loading the quad instead of crashing to the bottom

DB strict press:
20lb x10
30x10
40x10
50x10

DB clean and press:
50x10x3

DB shoulder circuit : 20lbs each hand x10x3

Any readers here remember a poster from the old site named Ed (his username was oldman) who was training through some unusual slow-moving cancer? Very helpful guy who provided a lot of insight into training with a chronic illness and was an all around super nice person in general in a community that celebrated being a snarky dick. I mostly lost touch with him after he took a step back from serious training to focus on other health-related things, and this might not be news for some of you guys who were more in the loop, but I just found out that he actually died earlier this year. This was pretty shitty to hear, and the world is a lesser place without him, but our little meathead gym-o-sphere was certainly better for having had him around when we did.

@stuffedsuperdud, yeah I remember Ed and I enjoyed reading his log. He was a great guy. RIP.

Thanks for passing this along. I’m glad I was able to interact with him.

ETA:

I went back to SS to check his log to see if there was anything new. Last post was from 2016 and was paterfamilias, another dude I miss chatting with. I hope he’s doing well.

Woke up with a very sore back and tons of DOMS in my glutes (that's new...). Went in to get the blood moving and came away with:

Snatch grip RDL + snatch grip DL from floor 5+5
20kg x a lot
70x1
110x1
130x1
140x1

Didn't die. Finished on some ab wheel, which I fully expect to feel tomorrow.

@mgil The trouble is that you don't know you're in the glory days until they're over. I went back to my old log and found some notes and training stories I had forgotten about. It was a fun few years.

I trained on Monday but I don't remember what I did. Oh W - Th, I stayed too late at work both days to prepare for next week's travel and failed to get anything in. Tuesday though.... on Tuesday I got held up at work because I got hammered with a colleague in her office and things got kind of weird but only kind of.

Today:
Woke up with a sore back and sore knees (right quad tendonitis very annoying) but tried to go in anyway to make up for the week:

Squat:
45lb x 8 x2 moving very slowly to warm it up as best I can, and to try to dial in the technique since I knew there would be some issues due to the discomfort.
135x8 same as above
225x10 feeling a little bit better.
315x10 still better.

Probably should have stayed here but I didn't want to leave and lbs on the bar for the day so I dialed it up and managed:
335x10. Still pushing that 10 rep top set. Recall my lifetime 10RM is 365lb so we're not too far off. This set I managed to do with a fairly slow eccentric and no bounce, which was cool, but the DOMS showed up before I could even get my shoes off, and I expect to be very uncomfortable for a few days.

Do miss the relationship escapades. But a more stable life is probably better overall.

Woke up with a stiff back that wouldn't loosen up so bench press it is. Still really focusing on technique and getting a solid shoulder position on the bench, instead of haphazardly grabbing the bar and pushing. Did:

Pause bench
45lb x 20 slow
135x10
185x6
205x3
225x3x5
185x10
145x20 that ought to get the blood flowing.

Last two weeks have been sloppy, with poor work life balance. My spazzy back has also been a bit of a downer recently, but today, I managed:

Pause bench:
45lb x 20
135x10
185x6
205x3
225x3
235x3
245x3x2
135x10
185x6
205x3
225x3x3

Feelin' fine

I had to work 100+ hours these past two weeks and unfortunately training was the first casualty. We also had a bunch of remote coworkers in town so sobriety was the second.

28kg KB carriers, 100m x 4 trips to get the blood flowing

Squat:
45lb x 20
135x10
225x8
315x5x5

Bench:
45x20
135x10
185x5x5

Deadlift:
20kg x10
70x10
110x5
140x5
Just going through the motions to make sure the posterior chain still works.

DB arm accessories for elbow health.
