I dunno. Sounds like you'd even let him be your husband.

Shawn Lane was the greatest. Died in 2003 at 41. He looks like he took Rip's diet advice, but he suffered from RA and some other ailments.

Also John McLaughlin

It's also clear from the links that Billy Cobham and Jeff Sipe (Apt. Q258) are the best drummers ever.

I submit one Henry Kaiser, a true pioneer of the instrument.

Nice ones. When it comes to guitar wanking fusion gets me going way more than blues. Al DiMeola's acoustic solo here is the stuff of legends:

And Henry Kaiser, eh? So you want to get weird. Then we'll have to go to Derek Bailey too:

Also, can you do this with 2 fingers?

And then there was that time Roy Clark, from Hee Haw, showed up on the Odd Couple and started jamming

@neandrewthal props on mentioning Derek Bailey. Since you made it weird, let me take this time to shill for my buddy James. Not a GOAT, maybe a WOAT?

As far as straight up natural talent, I give the nod to Tommy Emmanuel:

SRV is my personal favorite guitarist though (don't @ me bro):

I just didn't want to acknowledge him. Nothing against him personally, just that U2 hasn't made a good album since 1984.

And I also want to add Eric Clapton. Not sure if anyone mentioned him yet. Some tasty licks on this throwback classic, I think I hear a pentatonic scale, and whoever programmed the drum machine killed it.

This is reminding me why I can't really listen to blues (well the post 60s revival kind). Most artists just repeat the same 3 or 4 song frameworks and Stevie has done them better than anyone. There's really no comparison. His intensity and tone are just over the top. If there's anyone that can make me forget I'm listening to the same songs it's him. I think I have (or had) that DVD somewhere. Every time I pass by the El Mocambo that's what I think about.

torkins wrote: Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:36 pm ?? Joshua Tree? Achtung Baby?
There are a few decent songs on each and I just refreshed my memory by listening to at least a little bit of all of them. My favourite one will always be War.

You are not a careful observer.

Now that I think about it some more I think I have to change my vote to this goy. It's the notes he isn't playing. A mere 24 years old in this video. I don't know where the hell he is now. Wandering in the desert for all I know.

His live stuff in general was just nuts.

Such an amazing talent that was taken far too soon.
