And could be used as a headband... I like this idea.
You wear headbands while squatting? Seems a bit white and nerdy...

I love that song. It was my theme song till I got married. Now I'm just as white, but less nerdy.

The dentist said I have stress lines on my teeth. I try not to clench, but who knows what happens in the Zone of Darkness mid-lift. Maybe I should get a mouth guard, or learn the open-mouth grimace. :E

I do spit on the floor a bit involuntarily on heavy squat/deadlift reps, maybe a bib would help.
LMAO!

The wall in front of my rack will eventually need the ministrations of a damp sponge.
I have an american flag in front of my rack. It's probably against "code" to spit on it accidentally, right?

I would wear my mouthpiece an unreasonable amount of time. I would show up to practices with it, wear it through completely non-contact drills, try to say something with it in, get yelled at to take it out so people could understand me, get yelled at because whatever I said was stupid, and put my fucking mouthpiece back in. I wore it standing on the sidelines.

I would STILL never use it while weightlifting, because I am not an incompetent dork.

I had a dentist tell me I was getting some stress wear from grinding. For a period I put my lip between sets until I got a real grinder and then had to deal with mid set blood. Now I focus on valsalva in the throat, open jaw, closed lips. Teeth are holding up.

The mirrors behind the racks in my gym are covered in spit fleks. I face away from them now so no one blames me

I had some decent grind damage so I tried a bite guard a few times.

I’m a mouth breather and it tries to dislodge when I take breaths between reps. Ends up killing my focus and breathing.

Lately I’ve been putting my tongue between my front teeth and it works to prevent grinding.

I ditched it for squats. Don't need it and it really messes w/ my breathing.

But today i realized my deadlfts are getting heavy enough that there is a lot of force clenching.
I'm fine with that on this lift.

In contrast to using it on squats, it actually feels better to use it on deads.
Useful even.

I just recently bought a mouth guard to help with my clenching and grinding during my heavy sets. It just feels so uncomfortable to clench and grind during a set.

i use a mouthpiece for deads. i grind bad on deads and it hurts my teeth, so naturally i bought a mouthpiece. originally got the idea from watching strongman. i only use for DL tho bc i am able to take my time and breath between reps unlike for squatting. it probably has a negligible impact on my training

For anyone considering mouth guards or that has one but is complaining about fit/comfort/breathing, consider avoiding the generic "boil and bite" garbage sold at Wal-Mart or sporting goods stores.

The best fit with the smallest profile is going to be a custom mouth guard. I used Gladiator back when I was fighting, and they are super affordable. The Pro (what I have) was only $55 for a true custom fit guard at 6mm thick. If you have a couple extra bucks, the Lite is $80 but only 4mm thick, which is kosher since hoisting weights is a non-contact activity.

I don't use a mouth guard, but I have considered it on deadlift only. Maybe I'll give it a shot soon to see what I think.

You know you want to. How can you be the equipment guru if someone uses more mouthguards than you?

Stupid thought: Might a mouthpiece help those in another thread who are being babies about passing out while doing standing presses and the like? Would having the jaw forced SLIGHTLY more open mildly improve airflow through the throat and bloodflow through the next?

Or is this just nonsense?

+1 on the open mouth valsalva.
