That was my initial thought too, it's a 20% increase in price, massive.

This seriously makes me consider buying the Goliath deadlift bar instead, especially since it looks like GPC meets are starting to adopt it instead of Rogue/Texas dl bar. $400 vs $550 is really no contest, whatever difference there might be in terms of quality/build/whip is likely to be minute and therefore not worth the stretch.

ATX safety squat bar any good?

What is the cheapest but still decent option SSB in Australia?
Need to be able to use it hands free mode

Yes. I've posted about it multiple times in this thread, Simon just got one as well.

I've done Hatfield squats with mine many times....

The pads look kinda thin on the ATX bar, any thoughts on the padding and pad width?

ABC SSB is back in stock - way cheaper than the other options I was thinking about, but i assume it's also decent?

Yeah, the padding isn't as thick and luxurious as some other bars. My understanding/thoughts (based on reading / pictures, not having tried others much) is that it's similar to say, the Rogue padding in terms of thickness and definitely inferior to something like the EliteFTS bar. The covers are also a nylon type fabric rather than the thicker leatherette type material.

In day to day usage of the bar, I'm not sure this makes any difference whatsoever aside from aesthetics. The padding itself seems very durable and doesn't compress a ton, and I don't think thicker padding would make the bar better or more comfortable to use, at least with the weights I'm using (I squatted 172kg with it today for a single, so I'm not super strong but getting there). Maybe at 200kg plus it'd make a difference but I doubt it.

If I had to choose an no name SSB and ABC SSB at comparable prices, it'd be the ABC, no contest. I don't mind paying a little extra to support local manufacturers either, and ABC have a good rep to boot.

I wouldn't assume that without getting my hands on one. A lot of the stuff ABC retails but doesn't make themselves is absolute trash.

Think I'll go with the Iron Edge safety squat bar
First the price is not bad, and they do sell replacement pads, which is handy

The ATX SSB is only 23 cm between the pads which seems to be the narrowest of the bars from what I can see, which bodes well for shoulder comfort

WTF their site quoted me $118 delivery, and a $399 price to Sydney, so $577 total!

yeah I'm not spending that much on a SSB

I bought it on pre-order hence the much cheaper price at $378. Could you have it delivered to a friend or family member in a different area of Syd that would make it cheaper? delivery for me in Sydney was $58 and I'm just outside Penrith.

If this smoke haze gets any worse in Canberra my next piece of gym equipment is going to have to be a face mask. As it is I'm off to Bunnings to buy an industrial fan to cool the gym room as I can't run the air conditioner (evaporation cooler) with such poor air quality.

Yeah my Dad is in Theodore, he sent us a photo earlier of the view. Not good.

Bushfires like this are awful at the best of times but as an ex-Canberran these have really hit home, I have pretty fond memories of heading down Bateman's Bay and Narooma for fishing and fun. It's a great part of the world that won't be the same for a very long time after this.

ATX SSB review - in German, but turning on autotranslate gets you a good idea of what he is saying, and you get to see the bar up close

ordered the Iron Edge SSB
Will let you guys know who it turns out.

I have shoulder impingement on my left side, even in high bar squats, but not so bad with a wide grip, and I stretch and mobilize before squatting.
Working to get it back to 100% with tons of stretching, mobility, stability and cuff work.
After sorting most common areas, pecs, pec minor, subscapularis, I think it maybe my upper traps

But in the meantime been looking for a solution, plus been able to do calf raises at home, and load up split squats variants with hands support

They sent the bar and pads as 2 separate parcels - annoying, and both will arrive at different times

some info on the bar
You will run out of space on the Safety Squat Bar before having an issue with the weight.
The sleeves are 35cm long each.
If you were to use our Elite Bumper Plates for example, you would be able to fit 5 x 25kg Plates and 1 x 15kg Plate on each end, for a total weight of 280kg plus the bar itself.
The diameter of the central bar in the Safety Squat Bar is approximately 450mm across, the same thickness as an Olympic sleeve.
The only issue I can see is if the camber part of the bar will rub on the plates...

Ok the actual shipping in the checkout screen was much cheaper

$399.00
Shipping $69.99
Total Including $42.64 in taxes AUD $468.99

I really need an SSB now, so can't wait till end of January till these become available
Plus the Iron Edge bar is much light at 14.5kg, handy as I need to pack up and move my bar quite a bit, and the lighter empty bar is handy for warming up my single leg exercises

But I may end up getting the Verve bar as well later on, and compare them.
The Verve bar, if it's anything like the EliteFTS one may have too wide a handle/pad spacing though...
