You failed, Joe. Even though you paid $200 a month to do the programme, you did not do the programme. Strong is not for you.

I microloaded over a pretty long period of time like @KyleSchuant said, but thanks!mettkeks wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 4:31 pmYou sure you're not a very feminine guy? JK. Those are really impressive numbers!!!acciosnacks wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 3:31 pm
BW: 183 > 183
Squat: 155 > 285x3
Bench: 95 > 150x3
OHP: 75 > 130x3
At the end of LP, I was loathe to even touch a barbell. I did anyways, but mentally I was totally shot. I have been going easy/on a very slow cut since it ended and just recently have been feeling like I want to see some numbers again.

Yeah, @acciosnacks, those are really strong LP numbers! Your BW staying flat over that period of time is really impressive as well. Solid!

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
I finished my SSLP last Friday, so I’ll add my experience here.
Male, 42, wife, children, house, everything. The full catastrophe.
Feb 25 - June 14, 2019 – 16 weeks
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 211 > 210
Waist: 39” > 38.5”
All lifts are 3 sets of 5 reps.
Squat: 135 > 255
Bench: 115 > 145
Deadlift: 175 > 275
OHP: 65 > 105
Background:
If you’re old enough to remember picking teams, I was the kid that was always picked last. Zero athletic ability, but I had an awesome stamp collection when I was 11.
Prior to this, I had dicked around a bit with bro stuff but never kept if up longer than a few months. I hadn’t set foot in the gym for 7 months prior to starting the LP.
Overall, I am happy with these results. I got significantly stronger and actually lost of bit off my waist. At the end, I could add 5 lbs to the squat but weekly, not session to session. On bench I was also making regular progress, but with rep progression and not session to session. The OHP hit a hard stall with no progress. I will still be able to LP the deadlift for a while. I’m still making progress and I actually added 10 lbs on Monday. No cleans, no chins. I did chest supported rows.
This was a good experience, probably because my expectations were so low. Bought the blue book but didn’t get more than a couple of pages into it (fuck that, it’s a text book). I learned how to do the lifts okay, how to use a belt, how to count calories and protein. No injuries and no grinders.
I just bought the General Strength and Conditioning template from BBM, which I’ll run for the next 9 weeks, then reassess. Current goal is to get my waist to 37” without losing too much strength. I’m just trying to enjoy the process and not get too consumed, making room for all the other things in my life.

This definitely deserves its own thread. Post your LP stall stories. I'll start.
Mid-January to mid-april 2017
height: 5'11"
bw: 170-->185
squat: 155-->280 (5x1 with backoffs)
bench: 115-->192.5 (5x3)
deadlift: 185-->295 (5x1)
press: 85-->140 (5x3)
These were the best numbers I achieved. These were all at "gun to your head, RPE10" and were basically 5 rest-pause singles. Ultimately my LP ended after resetting constantly due to aching knees and hips. Possibly related to lifting at "gun to your head, RPE10" for all work sets...
After months of resetting/burnout/time off I started from scratch for a second LP:
February-late-April 2018
bw: 175-->184
squat 185-->270 (5x3)
bench: 155-->200 (5x3)
deadlift: 225-->295 (5x1)
press: 95-->135 (5x3)
Again, getting to the point that lifting was miserable and injury was probably imminent. And right around that time I discovered BBM and this place, fortunately before I re-started the cycle of constant injuries and resets.

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
Somehow missed this thread the first time around:
My LP was over 10 years ago when I was in college, so according to Rip et. al, I should have had more eye popping results.
Sept 2010-January 2011:
BW: 175>200
Squat: 135>260
Bench: 135>185
Press: 75>120
Deadlift: 225>335
LP ended because every sqaut and bench set were RPE 10. Learning better squat technique and never having read about "hip drive" would likely have gotten my squat a bit higher.

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
Started the LP in July 2019 and was interrupted by moving across the country and some relationship stuff involved (out of the gym over a month) and ended in January 2020.
Did a few Spartan Races and some bro lifting in college (templates with a friend off of bodybuilding.com)
Started LP at..
BW 175? maybe 180 (never recorded it officially)
S: 255, 3x5
B: 165, 3x5
P: 90, 3x5
D: 250x5
Ended LP at..
BW 200ish
S: 350x5 + 330x2x5
B: 190, 3x5
P: 130, 3x5
D: 375x5
Had elbow issues that killed my bench and messed up my Press some for a few months. Best bench I had was 198, 3x5
Did the 3 and 4-Day Texas Method for about 4 months after this and thought I made good progress until I realized that my e1RMs only went up maybe 20lbs after 3 months and then struggled with losing my numbers for a month before I discovered BBM.
Ran The Bridge and was sold on RPE and realized the Qanon guy didn't know shit about programming other than what he ripped off of Bill Starr. Anyway, I experimented with some RTS programming and HLM stuff, but now I'm working on trying to self program using emerging strategies.
As an edit: today is also the day I got deleted personally by the fat guy in denial for telling someone that the Texas Method sucks

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
Started midway in 2019, around 65-70kg
Squatted 40kg for 3 x 5
Bench 25kg I think for 3 x 5
Deadlifted 60kg for 1 x 5
Ended around 80kg
Squatting 100kg for 3 x 5
Benched 60kg for 3 x 5
Deadlift 120kg for 1 x 5
Pressed 40kg for 3 x 5
Did my own programming based on RTS/BBM since then and my best e1RM were 180kg squat, 100kg bench, 180kg deadlift and 70kg press before getting injured

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
Nice thread. Yeah, TM is effectively a long taper with required resets to get some useful volume. Andy Baker’s modifications to it usually include back-offs or accessory work. Strict TM, as written in the book and advocated by Rip, is ineffective.SnakePlissken wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 5:40 pmAs an edit: today is also the day I got deleted personally by the fat guy in denial for telling someone that the Texas Method sucks
What I love is Satch commenting. Your press is basically where his bench ended on LP. He is the poster boy for SS programming not working, yet continues to endorse it. It’s quite amusing.
ETA:
That’s why it’s not really worth engaging on that board. It’s like the flat earthers of barbell training.

I hadn't used that account in a while and wanted to see what it took to get banned. All you have to do is point out that SS is rehashed Bill Starr and say the TM from PPST3 is terrible since I pointed out I ran the 3-Day and 4-Day Version 2 and gained about 20 pounds on each lift over the course of about 3 months before they all started falling again.mgil wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 6:24 pmNice thread. It really is a flat earther society over there though. That thread is so cringey with the one guy saying " 5'10", 196lb" is the reason he's not making progress; I'm literally 5'11", 198lb right now.

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
I did more LPs than I can remember (wasn’t really consistent with lifting for a long time for various reasons). Weight gain was variable, but usually ended up around
S: 295x5
BP: 235x5 (lots of previous upper training)
DL: 300x5
P: 140x5
I happened to finish my last one around the time of the BBM split, and was torn between The Bridge and Texas Method. Tried one week of TM and noped the fuck out of SS crap after that.

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
This is an interesting thread.
This was about 2 years ago so I can only remember my final numbers.
BW 95kg - i remember losing about 5kg during the program
S: 135kg x 5
B: 102,5kg x5
P: 60kg x5
D: 145kg x5 *cries in short arms*
Oh, i never did the advanced novice stuff.
I will forever blame the SSLP for my knee tendonitis

I remember reading RTS stuff in people's training logs back in like 2013-2014 and being really interested but not knowing how to switch. So instead I fucked around on LPs and TM until late 2017 and wasted years of my life.sklunk wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:53 am I did more LPs than I can remember (wasn’t really consistent with lifting for a long time for various reasons). Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
Thanks. I've added your data to the sheet. But did you have any previous training or sports history, and what was your age and height at the time? Did you do cleans?
Thanks for your data.
Previous training or sports?
Age at the time?
Cleans?
Thanks.

I have omitted your data for this reason. If you pick one of these I can put it in. The first one is most logical.
Thanks.LuisAntunes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 2:53 pm This was about 2 years ago so I can only remember my final numbers.

It's remarkable how consistent the results are, overall, at least for the men for whom we have the most data. The guy starts at a normal (18.5-25) BMI and gets into the "overweight" category (25-30), and ends up squatting (medians so far) 295lb, benching 195, deadlifting 335 and pressing 127.5. Under a third do cleans at all, and those who do end up cleaning 40-50% of their deadlift.
11% (4 of 36) males with coaching, and 27% (17 of 62) without it, reported an injury which stopped their training. The average (not median) squat of the coached was 250, that of the uncoached 300lb. In part this may be recruitment bias, in that people like my 84yo guy who worked up to squatting the empty bar over several weeks are more likely to seek coaching, and those with some natural talent are more likely to, at least during the novice period, do things on their own. As well, people with decent results are more likely to keep lifting up as a hobby, and discuss it on forums, and thus be around with us here to report their results.
But it may also be that coaches hold people back a bit and make them less likely to be injured by going too hard, or using sloppy technique, etc.
I don't think the data offers us strong conclusions yet, but it does raise some interesting questions. As a comparison, the SS franchise gyms offered some data in this article. They don't report previous training, injuries, height or weight. Just broad gender/age groups and lifts. They describe males 18-44yo after 3 months hitting a squat of 246, bench 177, deadlift 297 and press 120. These numbers are closer to the coached than uncoached lifters in our data set.
Notably, the SSFGs did not report powercleans in that article. More notably, injuries.

Re: The Great LP Stall Thread of Shame
@KyleSchuant I did some sports in highschool but I was a fulltime engineering student in college so I really just lifted and did a few casual spartan races. Had about a 6:15m mile if it's anything useful.
Started the LP when I was 25. Started bro lifting at 23.
I also tried cleans but my rack sucked so I did pendlay rows instead alt with chins. Advanced novice progression.
