Strength and Endurance (500 lbs deadlift + 5 min mile)
This is the latest craze among former Olympic distance and middle distance runners. I think it is pretty cool. He signs up for a powerlifting competition at the end of this video. I know there is a bunch of self promotion going on here, but it is still cool to see strength being respected by these runners. Ryan Hall is trying to do this as well.

That’s pretty cool, although I flinch every time he drops the bar. I have a good idea of how far I am from 500 deadlift, but I wonder how far I am away from a 5 minute mile. Probably just a pipe dream away.

Yes. Dropping the bar reminds me too much of crossfit, which he has probably done. Getting to 500 for him will be no small challenge without adding a bunch of muscle...which hurts the 5 minute mile. Accomplishing either is great. Both is outstanding. I ran my last half marathon after I did my linear progression and added 30 minutes to my time.

Fergus Crawley did this and has done some more extreme versions of this (Thanks for mentioning him, @psmith!); pretty wild stuff.

I think Crawley did both in a single day, but not as a pull, drop, and then straight into the run.OrderInChaos wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:52 pm Fergus Crawley did this and has done some more extreme versions of this (Thanks for mentioning him, @psmith!); pretty wild stuff.
Ryan Hall attempted it, running a 5:28. To his credit, he was using a regular bar (not a deadlift bar) and was running ON A DIRT TRACK. Incredible.

What I would love to see is a 500 lbs squat and five minute mile. THAT would be pretty awesome.
Or a 300 lbs bench and five minute mile.
My closest to ever claiming anything close to this was a 500+ pull, 500 lbs squat (in wraps) and a seven minute mile. Bench was around 260 lbs. I was around 185-190 lbs.

Crawley did the squat/mile shortly after Klink:OrderInChaos wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:52 pm Fergus Crawley did this and has done some more extreme versions of this (Thanks for mentioning him, @psmith!); pretty wild stuff.
Also a 600kg total/6hr 60k:
I think he did a PL total/Ironman combo too. Very impressive. I'm sticking with tried and true endurance specialization training for now and accepting the hit to my lifting, but if I ever get that sub-9:00 1.5mi I may take a shot at something like this.
