Who is on a cut?

What's a carb? A car part? What's a macro? A type of camera lens?

They work very well for me. Bulk 6 weeks, deload and cut 2 weeks. The purpose is to not waste time deloading without and cutting and also not to have to spend too much time cutting, which I find pretty miserable.

At some point though I got impatient with my low body weight and started bulking too aggressively, which is why my last 2 cuts were 4 and 3 weeks respectively.

I would like to eventually (successfully) leave the land of the perma-cut, but for compliance’s sake a steady and approach works best. Or at least it further defers the (inevitable?) yo-yo upswing.

My cut update: I’m now about where I was in late May, so I’ve undone most of my summertime debauchery.
I’m only about 20 pounds down from where I was this time last year, but I’m feeling comfortable about focusing on weight loss through this school year enough to put it more in the back burner for next year.
I just want to put on as much muscle as I can while staying in roughly the 14-16% bodyfat range. At some point my progress will slow to the point that I may have to reconsider my priorities but for now I still make noticable (to me, lol) gains every bulk cycle.

@JohnHelton
Do you have the link of a good video for the instruction how to use a caliper?
I know it sounds stupid but i find myself cheating when taking the waist circumference. Exhaling more, standing different and so on. And i think small changes are hard to detect if you aren't very strict. I normally don't cut more than 3 weeks. And i don't lose much more than one inch in that timeframe.

If you just cheat as much as possible every time, its consistent.

I don't have one to recommend, but there are a bunch of videos on YouTube.

Cutting through the end of the year. I want to lose a bit of fat before eating at surplus starting around February.

Same plan. I'm at 178 and want to drop below 170 for the first time since high school then commence the long half-winter bulk. Plan is to get to 168 before the new year then maintain for January and start bulking in February.

Sounds good. I hope to lean bulk (   ) my way into the meet in May. I doubt I'll be able to fill out the 90kg class that way, but I want to try.

A little over 94kg here.
Dropping down into the -90kg class for my March 18th meet.
Gonna just get to maybe 196 and see how it's going from there.
Want to go as low as i can into the class without impacting my target lift numbers.
2,350 to 2,400 calories a day.

Lol. I actually thought of posting that you look like you have a great bench but decided not to.

I know you are super dialed in for food choices and stuff. Are you really always in between those numbers?

What is a normal variance in calorie intake for people in a weight loss phase?

Does the variance change significantly in a maintenance phase or a bulk??

Lol! @dw
Indeed

@augeleven
Yep
Hitting numbers is super easy for me.
Same food everyday.
I can sub out some oat milk for a tablespoon of PB, things like that.
Cup oat milk =90 calories, Tbsp PB =95

Three meals and coffee, scratch paper on the table next to the notebook i track in.
So if breakfast and coffee totals X, and i know what is for midday, it's easy to see that subtotal.

So yesterday instead of rice in my midday smoothie, i had pasta. (Not in the smoothie!)
112 grams dry is 400 calories, and my two cups (318 grams) cooked rice is 410.
Then 60 calories for sour cream in the pasta, adjust for the final meal and hit the number.

I'm sure people who eat more like regular humans have more variation.

I also record weight and calories everyday on a different notepad.
Watch the trend, adjust as needed.

It's fun to have a solid reason to cut now.
Never cut for weight class before.
It's timely in this case however, i also hadn't bulked in the "bulk" of my lifting history.
Pretty much 200lbs all along, with mini cuts here and there.
Well, i did drop 20lbs with the surgery and resulting downtime 2019/2020

I'm upping my isolate amounts and reducing peanut butter further.
Want to cut faster so i'm below 90kg before things get really much heavier in training.
Get calories down further and even bring protein up a little.
18 weeks out

So today that means
2k calories
60 grams fat
166.5 grams carbs
176.5 grams protein

Down 300 cals from the first few days of cutting
down 30-ish fat
up 20-ish g protein. +/-

203lb/92kg am weight today.
Down from 207lb/94kg
Was already mildly cutting before deciding to drop down to -90kg class.

Should be under 90kg easily before the end of the year.
Now to see how my lifts hold up.
I think that's really more mental than anything right now.
These first pounds are well covered by BF reserves.

I'm still probably going to do caffeine before deadlifts today.
Last session of the block, so i want a good result.

10 days at about 2,050 calories per day, and was doing 2,400for a while before when i was only triming some and planning on staying obove 90kg.

Took out some more PB today and end up with
Cal- 1,863
Fat-46g
Carb- 146g
Protein- 175.5g

Also have gone to black coffee.
Was only using 2 Tbsp 1/2 & 1/2, but that's another 40 calories.

Lifts are going well, and bench and DL both start new blocks this week, so effective deloads.
202lbs AM weight two days in a row.
impatient for the needle to move again.
Want to get down to 89kg/196lb soonest so i can add calories back in and slow the rate of loss.

It was a bit of a short notice decision to fully cut, based on the competition at my next meet.
Glad i'm doing it though.
Def have plenty of BF to cover the cut target.

Hit 200lbs today.
-90kg class squarely in sight.
Now i'm just curious how low i can go while keeping pace with my programmed progressions.

This meet i'm open to trading a few kilos off the total (as long as it's still a PR) for increased DOTS.

Starting a 2 week cut at 1900 kcals. This last bulk I went really well, turns out I had set much too high a kcal target on previous bulks.
