Finally, let's lift some weights. Maximum volitional speed engaged.
Bench 315x1, 237.5x6x7, 1x12
(85%, 65%, H=485)
Deadlift 340x6x4
(70%, H=267)
Musings: Someone at work had a big bag of Sweet Carolina Reaper Cheetos yesterday and I was one of the only other people who liked them. So one of the more snack-food oriented employees brought me Chili Cheese Bolitas Cheetos today. They were fine, but then she went to McDonalds for lunch and brought me back a "holiday pie", which is like the McDonalds apple pie, but made with a sugar cookie crust and filled with custard... I think she's trying to fatten me up for some reason?
lol joke's on her I'ma convert all those calories into gainz

I forget. Is your notation, wgt. x reps x sets or wgt. x sets x reps?

Re: For Your Health (a hunk's log)
I’ve always written weight x sets x reps because that’s how it is said out loud; “275 for 7 sets of 4”. Though, to be fair, I understand why people use weight x reps x sets in text format.JohnHelton wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 2:16 pm I forget. Is your notation, wgt. x reps x sets or wgt. x sets x reps?

Re: For Your Health (a hunk's log)
That’s what I told myself at my gym’s holiday party earlier this evening. Clearly because I ate the two plates of cookies in the gym, they effectively just were attached to my biceps.
About the notation thing - after over two decades of reading innumerable magazines and online articles, I never once had seen WxRxS until I first started lurking here and realized that some folks were writing that way. Having to now constantly question at what I’m looking drives me crazy. It wasn’t even a thought from like 1996 through 2018.

Re: For Your Health (a hunk's log)
This specific log is the only one I've noticed it in. I think I asked a while back, or someone else did, and the content is well worth the momentary mental switch.DCR wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 8:01 pm About the notation thing - after over two decades of reading innumerable magazines and online articles, I never once had seen WxRxS until I first started lurking here and realized that some folks were writing that way. I don't know why but the "for your ____" really does it for me, and I have to actively work to not steal it in some of my own writeups.

I think at one point I wrote WxSxR, but the Starting Strength books use WxRxS so I conformed to that when I was logging over there.

Re: For Your Health (a hunk's log)
When I started reading online and then logging online, absolutely everything was written as W x R x S. Like it was a written rule somewhere. Go Heavy, Diesel Power Forum, Strength Discussion, The Anvil, several others that I don't remember, it was weird for someone to write it the other way and if they did they said so somewhere to be clear. I don't know why, it just was, and no one around me ever saidanything "for x sets of y", they only refernced reps out loud, and maybe would proffer the sets count afterwards or if prompted. Only BBers did more than 5 sets of anything anyway, and mostly it was 3 work sets period. For me, I can't keep it in my brain to write down the other way. I remember the reps and sometimes I rely on video to help me with rep count or set count. I think maybe the swing to higher volume has pushed the form of natation the other way now.broseph wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 5:35 pmI’ve always written weight x sets x reps because that’s how it is said out loud; “275 for 7 sets of 4”. Re: For Your Health (a hunk's log)
Lol I had no idea the WxSxR issue was so hot. Maybe I'll start logging with little s's and r's
I stole "for your ____" from Check it Out! with Dr. Steve Brule (see profile pic). I've never had an original thought in my entire life.cgeorg wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:47 amThis specific log is the only one I've noticed it in. Ha! I knew I had seen that notation used on someone's log here. It's funny- I couldn't figure out quite where to put the spaces, so I'm just copying your style.

Re: For Your Health (a hunk's log)
12/4/22
Bodyweight ranging 189-190# this week.
Bench 310x1, 255x11x5
(85%, 70%, H=655) I eventually stopped because I thought I should, though it felt like I could've kept benching 70%x5 all day.
Chins BW+100x7x4
Seated DB Press 50x4x10
Supersetted x4:
Incline DB Curl 25x10
Incline Tricep Press 108x10
Musings: A while ago my wife bought a box of chamomile lavender tea because it sounded good, and it is good. BUT, the packaging advertises "Now with PROBIOTICS!!!"
For the longest time, I'd get mad every time I made a cup of this tea and I'd smugly think "Pffft, how are bacterial cultures going to survive not only the drying and storage of packaged tea, but also being immersed in boiling water, and then my gastric secretions?"
Now with only a couple bags left, I finally did a little research, and the particular bugs in this product form spores that survive typical food manufacturing and drying conditions, and nearly boiling water, and don't start waking up from their spore form until they've been exposed to the type of acidic conditions found in the stomach. For your microbiome.
Edit: Fuck it, all those r's and s's look atrocious. I'm deleting them.

CARDIO
Titan Bike x15:
0:30 on
0:30 off
27.2 mph
17.2 Cal/min
Musings: The novelty of getting up early to do cardio has worn off. Everyday I wake up an hour before my alarm and toss and turn before finally getting out of bed 5 minutes before it rings. I don't do that on non cardio days.

Squat
365x1
385x3 @9, maybe less. I haven't struggled with anything heavy in a long time, so this felt really heavy. After racking the bar, I rated it @9.5, but video replay makes it look easier than that. I'm calling e1RM = 425, but I'll probably split the difference between that number and my previous cycle's 1RM. Training max for new cycle = 410
Deadlift
475x1
500x1@10. At least I can say I can deadlift 500 again. 475 felt like a warmup, so I half planned to try for a double at 500. Lol, that wasn't going to happen.
Supersetted x3:
Shrug Row 125x12
Standing Calf Raise +30 x20
Hanging Knee Raise x12
Musings: Over the weekend we took the children to the local Xmas parade. While waiting to cross the street, we explained the "walk/do not walk" system. As a dad, I couldn't help but time it out and pretend to use The Force to change it to "walk." The kids were amazed and asked my wife how dad did that. She told them "magic."
One of the 7 year old girls responded, "Magic isn't real. What's next, we're gonna start going to church?" It was the hardest I'd laughed, and the proudest I'd been in a while.
