Kinda shitty, but stronger than last year, so... Made a mistake inviting the 6yo out to watch the last two deadlifts- "dad, don't do it. Please don't do it. You will get hurt. Dad stop. Dad no." Kicked him out of the garage before the 485. 465 felt pretty good though.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I used to actively avoid speaking to my mother or ex-wife before the gym because the “be careful”s and “you’re gonna get hurt”s drove me crazy. At least your little one actually was concerned. In my case, the admonishments were less about my safety than saying something negative about my hobby.

Forgot to mention my proudest parent moment so far:

Egg hunt last weekend at a local church. 10/10 terrible repressed memories, was pure mental agony for me. BUT! The 6yo, prior to the reading of the Easter Story, sitting in the front row, next to the pastor's daughter, turned around, looked at the stained glass window with the sun streaming in through jesus, asked me, loudly, while pointing: "Dad is that zeus?"

I know he meant well, but that negativity can be toxic. 485 didn't even move, despite 465 feeling like an 8.5 or 9.
