Meet day caffeine strategies

#1

Post by Wilhelm » Tue Feb 15, 2022 3:20 pm

I had great success doing the max effective dose before my deadlift session last meet.
Did 2/3rds in warmups, and 1/3rd after first attempt.

Dosing based on info here
https://www.strongerbyscience.com/caffeine/
Works out to about 550mg for me, and i just went 600mg because they are capsules.

I'm curious how others use it on meet day, especially anyone who doses for squats, and then again for deads.

I don't count, I am told that I have pretty wicked ADD, but for me there was no upper cap of caffeine. I needed everything I could get to calm down and focus, and the stimulants would drop my BP down to normal range. I could be a little overhyped with zero stimulants.

This most recent meet (March 18th 2023) i went with 300mg before bench, then another 300kg after that for DL.
Same dosing i've used before (but i was significantly lighter bodyweight)
I liked it better this way, and i actually feel like i can use the help for bench.

The duration of effectivness is plenty long that by deadlifts i am maxed out.

I also have a 3 hour drive home after meets, so the caffeine comes in handy for that too.

How many weeks did you stay awake after that second dose?

Well, i was up at 2:30 AM meet day, and it was around 6:30pm when i started the drive home
Stopped for cheeseburgers at the drive thru.
I may have stayed up a while after debriefing with wifey.

Little over 500mg is my "max effective ergogenic dose" according to Trexler's guide.
Honestly, it feels pretty normal after i get home.
Really good for keeping my eyes peeled for deer and moose in the roadway during the drive home in the dark.

Every adult male should take more caffeine than he can deadlift.

Being awake for the drive is no joke. I almost hit an upside down car on the Interstate this week going to WSM. A little less awake and I would have run right into it, like the car a little behind me did. In a construction zone fenced in by concrete barricades. Dude pinballed off the car and the barricades while spinning around, glad that wasn't me.

I usually have a venti cappuccino before a meet. Triple shot of espresso. Maybe I should try more.
