First time in a long an American was a gold on the men's side.

Gor apparently is saying he's going to hit 220, and the Weightlifting House video shows him hit 200 like a warmup. I think Lasha might get pushed and have to put up a number that requires effort at least on the Snatch, I don't think that he's okay with not getting Gold on the Snatch.

I know this is unlikely, but it would be cool for him to go 235/265. Not likely, but it would be cool. The American Maddy (Mattie? Don't remember how she spells it) looks good to post some serious numbers too.

Mattie Rogers... She's in amazing shape. Very few athletes hit her numbers. She would have been strong enough to win in 2017 or 2018. This year, the field was extremely strong in her weight class. Lidia Valentin won the championships in 2017 and 2018 with numbers similar to what Mattie's hitting now.



She's a very inspiring lifter.

Olivia Reeves took Bronze in the 71 kg. She has a 200-kilo squat!

Kuo Hsing-chun still got a silver in the Clean & Jerk. A 130-kilo jerk is always outstanding in the 59-kilo class. I love how she squats. In this video, you see her entire ramp-up to 190 kilos x 1 followed with some snatch pulls up to 115 x 2. She's lovely to watch. Both strong and feminine. Too bad the commentator isn't saying a word about when that session was relative to her upcoming competition, what did she lift before, etc., but the video is amazing all the same.

I was lol'ing at everyone gushing over mattie making 145 in the training hall.

Everyone: "wow, she's doing 145 in the training hall; probably hit 150 in the meet"

Me: "she's using up all her mojo just prior to the meet! She's never done that before, why now? Why would her coaches let her do that? I 'member Lu doing 200 in houston in training hall (bomb'd out, etc)."

Kuo is just the least man-ish, relative to how high her lifting abilities are....compared to her peers.

Not only does Kuo lift well (technique, places high in world meets, etc) .... she carries herself very well, even when things don't go well.
Most of the Asian females are NOT drama queens like their western counter parts.

yes, I think we have seen peak lasha a couple of years ago. He's still amazing, but everyone was saying some crazy shit wrt to his ceiling 4 or 5 years ago....

"placed" or "places" in most sports-lingo usually means 1st,2nd,3rd place.
"High" would 1st or 2nd I guess.

Her Olympic results: 6th, 2nd, ....and the most recent 1st/gold ain't all that great because IIRC no Chinese were there.

Last three Worlds Champs: 4th, 2nd, 1st

Probably her best result are Asian Champs, but alas, those are not "World meets", they are region...
...albeit one could argue they might be competitive the the Olympic stage because ..... because olympic-bullshit

Another interesting thing....

I think I can remember two times when a B group lifter won gold (worlds/olympics).....it escapes me right now, but I remember having that convo (online) before.

This year, a Thai motherfucker came out of C group in the 71M and won it all !!! LOLZ (Weeraphon, Wichuma)

and then a D group lifter won 5th !

It was legit too. Four A group lifters did bomb-out, but none of those lifters' CJ were close to that Thai dudes ...they were bombing with low to mid 180's and that dude's opener CJ was 190. And then he made 195.

kinda weird....because IIRC, they put up the highest total thus far on the bottom scoreboard from the previous sessions. All the coaches/lifters HAVE to be staring at that total starting up the session. And you really can't be worried about what's going on in your own group session until that previous total is eclipsed, or, just about to be eclipsed. (nevermind, he just fucken destroyed everyone in the A grp total wise ...there was nothing the other lifters could do)

I wonder if this is a (very) intentional strategy.
That lifter got to follow himself twice immediately in the C session for the CJ, as he was far above everyone else in that group.
I guess the positive is you absolutely know you are going last and can warmup accordingly in the w.u.room.
If you did not want to deal with a rambunctious crowd or whatever .... I guess put in a low seed total?

I'd say her five World Championships (2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021), and her Olympic Gold in the off year (2020), are better results than her five Asian Championships.
