PSA For Michigan Folks

#1

Post by TimK » Fri Jan 05, 2018 12:03 pm

I know there were some Michigan people who had expressed interest in doing the USAPL meet on 4/28... @broseph @Root @SpinyNorman @Allentown (you know you want to)... I think that was everyone? If I missed someone please tag them.

Registration is open, and apparently it has been moved from Saginaw to Mt Pleasant (less of a drive for me, woohoo). You need to join USAPL first and then you can register for the meet (you need your member ID number for the meet registration). I checked with the meet director and he confirmed that your gear does NOT need to be on the IPF approved list, it just needs to meet the technical specs (so Pioneer belts are ok, for example).

Here are the links:

http://www.usapowerlifting.com/membership-application/

http://barbellum.com/2018-spring-barbellum/

I just signed up today. They posted yesterday on FB that they were at 25% of capacity for whatever that's worth. If you're planning on doing it probably a good idea to sign up now. Exodus takeover would be sweet!

I'm registered. Love the change to Mt Pleasant. 2 hour drive for all of us in every direction!

I'm tempted. I was planning on doing Barbellum's Rochester event in June, but if there are a lot of Exodusites (Exodusters?) showing up to this one, I might switch.

Don't forget all of the IPF Approved Equipment you'll need. That's another good $100 if you need to get both a belt and a singlet.

Thanks for the heads up. I can barely overcome my embarrassment enough to post in my log here, let alone do that shit in front of other people.

If it were closer I'd come out to just to meet the MI crew.

Ah jeez... I probably would've flaked out on this. Thanks a lot for calling me out in a non-training-log thread... Now I'll probably do the meet.

Probably.

As soon as I get over my depression about lifting less than I lifted a year ago. It's hard to get motivated to pay money to lift non-PR weights at a non-PR bodyweight. But it will probably be fun.

Probably.

Thinking about the number of regularly active usernames, seems like Michigan makes a pretty decent showing here. Interesting.

I was just thinking we have a good Michigan showing on the forum too.

I'm nowhere near PRs either, but it would probably be a good time anyway.

What else is there to do in Mt. Pleasant? My wife actually seemed somewhat interested in coming turning it into a weekend trip if it involves more than just watching powerlifting.

The cost is a little steep for me right now, but I'll definitely consider registering. I've been wanting to get a USAPL meet under my belt for a while.

As far as I can tell, the most pleasant thing about Mount Pleasant is that it's not Saginaw. My GF, however, also seems excited about it too.

Apparently there is a casino, and a water park.
