Reppin 125lb Adjustable Dumbbells

Awesome to see Rep working with another smaller company/creator. In this case they've worked with PÉPIN to make an adjustable DB that's extremely impressive. PÉPIN designed and sells a 120lb adjustable DB that's amazing in its own right. The major downside of it is the cost, at well over $2k for a pair.

It looks like there have been some small tweaks to this version, but it's a very similar DB. The main difference is cost, with the new REP x PÉPIN FAST Series Adjustable Dumbbell (I like "Reppin" better ;) ) going for $1,300.

I already have 2 sets of Adjustable DB's, but odds are I'll end up selling one of them and picking these up at some point.

I think Rep might be using cerakote coating where Pepin used nickel. And I know the Rep are way cheaper. I have no issue with either of those.
Are there any potentially negative differences?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I heard that they're using cerakote only on the adjustment bar, and that they're using aluminum instead of steel for part of the handle (which also means the handle weight is lighter, which is obviously a positive). There should be no negatives to either of these changes from a usability/performance standpoint. I believe the 'adder' weights used to adjust in increments of 2.5lbs are also different, but I've not seen any information about what these actually look like or how they work on this version.

I'm sure the main reasons for the difference in cost is that these are made in China and that they're being mass produced instead of individually constructed.

Cool to see more options available.

For my needs, I see no advantage to these over my Ironmasters (time needed to change weights doesn't bother me), which can go to 135 and come with a stand (albeit a shitty one) for slightly less money, and have survived a few unplanned bench height drops at 100+ without flinching. That said, if I didn't already have adjustable dumbbells these would be under consideration. I definitely like the look of them over Powerblocks.

Ironmasters are awesome.

The main reason I'd want these are for the extra weight. I have Snode's that go up to 80 and Powerblocks that go up to 90. Adjustables that go up to 125 (and even higher if I add some platemates or other magentic weights) would probably be all I'd ever need.

Buy yeah, for anyone that already has DB's that go up close to 120 this would probably not be the best use of their money.

Pre-ordered the 125lb set.
Hopefully the first run isn’t riddled with errors.

There was a time when I absolutely would NOT have purchased a V1 from REP, but that time has passed. They've still shown they can make improvements over time, but it's been a while since I can remember them releasing anything that had any real issues. Seems like they must have made their pre-testing process more robust over the years. I think this is one of the main reasons they've continued to grow steadily.

Congrats on the purchase! Now the long wait for delivery has begun...

If you thought April to August was a long wait. . .

We’re writing to let you know that your order of the REPxPepin dumbbells will be later than our promised ship date. While we make every effort to meet or exceed expectations with delivery dates, occasionally our development process results in unexpected delays. Your new ship date will be October 25, 2024. Those who ordered later will see less impact as we ramp production.

This delay resulted from several improvements we felt were needed after we finished extensive testing on durability and accelerated wear. First, we improved the plate design to withstand drops that the original would not be able to handle. Second, we improved the laser-etched weight marking by adding a nickel coating underneath the ceramic coating, which retains the rust-resistance characteristics we want while still giving the high visibility markings that improve upon the original. These improvements have been finished and tested, with production well underway for the past month.

We appreciate your early support for this product and are looking forward to getting the best adjustable dumbbell in the world into your hands as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ouch. At the same time, it's probably for the better that they fix those issues now rather than waiting a year and releasing a V2.

For sure. I’m fine waiting a minute if it means a better product.

The changes seem legit. Delay seems reasonable.

Think I'm gonna have to stop watching updates about these because they're making me want to spend money that I don't have, lol.

Supposing one had no adjustable DB, it seems like the $300 price difference for the Reppin ease of use would be worth it?

To me the important question is:

Do you really want dumbbells?

You can do almost everything with just a barbell and a chin up bar.

That said, life is short and dumbbells are fucking awesome. To me, the compactness of the Reppins is a huge draw. I also like the backstory of the insane French Canadian who was obsessed with manufacturing his own fitness equipment and invented them.

If you’re gonna spend an amount of $ in the universe of the Reppins already, then I think the extra $300 is justifiable. But that’s me. This is akin to asking an alcoholic if one more drink is ok.

What are you comparing them to that’s $300 less?

Ironmasters and Nuobell are probably about that price to get the heaviest models.

If you don’t mind the screws at the end, and manually adjusting, you could get a pair for $300.

Comparing them to the Ironmasters specifically.

I do want dumbbells. I have a pair of adjustable handles that use my oly plates, I use them 3-5 times a week. It would be really nice to have a more permanent solution that has more convenient setup and comfortable use- no sleeves sticking way out, for example.

Backstory being that I made a bet that might get me $2k to use on gym equipment. Adjustable DB and an adjustable bench are on the list of what I would use that money on.

In that case I would go with the Reppins for sure (I preordered them myself). To me the adjustment speed is worth an extra $300 for a piece of equipment that you’ll use multiple times per week or even per workout for decades. Makes warming up, supersetting, etc much quicker and more convenient which in turn allows you to get your workouts done faster, saving you time. And as we all know, time is money, so really when you think about it, you can’t afford *not* to get the Reppins… DO IT, GET THE REPPINS

Perfect. Now I just need to make sure my wife doesn't ride the motorcycle she just bought long enough for it to need professional maintenance to get running again so I can have the money from selling it...
