Rogue Invitational

#1

Post by Hardartery » Sat Nov 09, 2024 1:32 pm

Don't know if anyone has been catching the livestreams. Hooper got second place in all thress events on Friday, Halfthor got first in the DL and the Inver Stones, Thomas Evans won the Farmer's/Log Lift, which left Hooper in First overall coming in to today and Halfthor in second. Tom Stoltman won the first event today, Halfthor second, not sure right now if Hooper or Singleton got third but it appears Hooper is third on the Medley. I haven't finished the stream for today yet.

Hooper smoked the Yoke/Power Stairs. His first first of the contest, and then he completed the Press Medley - not sure if he won it or got second. Luke Stoltman was the only other finisher but Halfthor actually did quite well on it getting everything but the final 405 Axle. Hooper ran away with the contest Thor a comfy second place, Tom got third but Singleton was not far off.

Hope they get a lot of feedback about how terrible those buttons are. It was especially bad on the sled pull where guys weren’t sure if they’d hit the end or not and some did an unnecessary last pull before they were confident hitting the button. The only thing I liked them on was the power stairs but even still people were tripping over the implement trying to get to the button faster. One of the CrossFit girls actually fell and hit her abdomen on the T handle on her way to the button which looked painful.

Was actually in attendance and heard some chatter about them liking the venue and talking about holding it here again next year. The Strongwoman was more entertaining than the Strongman in my opinion. When Thor came 2nd last on the log press and it was clear Toms head wasn’t 100% in it, everyone knew Hooper was going to win barring an injury. Most of the Women came out like they had something to prove on every event. Far less predictable.

I agree, especially about the buttons. That was pretty retarded and unnecessary, the whole thing overall looked like it was probably a good show. The mix seemed like it would keep things interesting, these things can get real slow and boring around the events during setup but this seemed very well thought out in terms of minimizing setup times.

N = 1, but i asked inez about it after and she said the buttons were good. She and her coach said they'd been burned by slow reaction times by judges with their stopwatches before. I agree that it *looked* worse.

Yeah the setup time between CrossFit/Strongman, resetting implements and changing weights between men/women was all lightning fast.

Really? I suppose if you’ve been fucked over by that in the past then having control over your finish time probably feels nice.

Some sort of force plate system would be better (load/touch the force plate with the implement to stop the count) but I guess the logistics and cost would be more difficult. But if Brian Shaw can set up a force plate to stop people bouncing a machine squat then I’m sure it can be done.

Multiple new WR's on the Elephant bar for the ladies, almost 700 lbs at the end.
Stoltman is looking like 7th place on Elephant bar, he is out after missing his second (891? I think) so he's at 861, which only beats one opener and a scratch. Thor hit a 916 opener that looked like a last warmup and so far Hooper and Thompson have yet to open.
Thor looks weird with no beard. Just sayin'.

Hooper and Thompson both OPEN with 951. And both lifts were silly.
Stoltman can gets 8th place on the event. New guy Guardiola? something or other is 9th, Boudreault is last with a scratch.

Singleton finishes with 966 on his third, I think 5th his the worst he can do, Hatton's third was a miss and he is below Singleton.

Thompson hit a PR with 986 on his second, but that looked like all he had.
Hooper followed him with 991, which was no where near all he had.

Hooper called for 1011 for a third, apparently 100% to stall to give Thor more time before he comes out for his second.

So, there went 1026 lbs for Thor's second, looked the same as the first lift. He is now going for the 501 kg.
Mitchell was not being a dick, he was doing Thor a favour because he gets extra time before a record attempt but not before that. Mitchell has second on the event without a third lift, and he has second even if he does hit another lift unless it is more than 501kg which is not happening for him. So, we'll see Thor in about 15 minutes break the record.

OH Medley

Shit show on the Women's side

Hatton wins on tiebreak over Trey Mitchell, Hooper third on tiebreak over Andrade, I think Thor took 5th. Stoltman having his typical comp anywhere but WSM.

Hooper wins Frame, Hatton second, Singleton third, Halfthor in 5th.
Overall is Hooper first, Hatton second Halfthor third I think but they haven't said yet.

Carrasquillo wins the Big Jerk for the women's, with her first lift at 150 kg followed by 160 kg just because. Olga L second at 142 kg, 4 way tie at 135 kg for 3rd.
It should be noted that Carrasquillo jerked from the front and everyone else from BTN.

Boudreault is out with a torn bicep, his frame was nuts but he got a little robbed. It looks like the worst lift for Men's Big Jerk is going to be 215 kg. Yes, the worst number. Hatton hasn't gone yet and it's up to 222kg.

Hatton OPENED with 227 kg (500 lbs) and it looked like an opener. They are going to hit something stupid today.

Hatton wins with 247.5 kg, with an unused attempt. Hooper and Mitchell tied for second with 242.5 kg, Stoltman in tie for third with Halfthor, Singleton and Andrade. Hooper may have had more, Mitchell did not, Hatton definitely had more. Hatton will but some daylight between him and Halfthor with that but not catch Hooper.

I forgot this was even going on this weekend...

Can we all just give 501/505 a year off and maybe never mention it again until someone is actually really for real ready to do it? Better yet, just never mention it again until someone shows up and unexpectedly does it...
