Why, yes, it is. Your mom forged it for me all by herself.

Trying to understand Trump's proposal for the Gaza strip. Here are the points as I understand them:

--relocate the Palestinians somewhere else.
--the US will take over the Gaza Strip, disarm, and rebuild it.

Which begs several rather important questions but is that the gist or am I missing something?

I see only 2 possible scenarios

1- he is posturing and trying to project strength (threatening) in order to improve our allies position at the negotiating table

2- he is following in his predecessors condtition of cognitive decline

Ps if so much as a single US soldier dies in Gaza as a result of this, he should be held criminally accountable. speaking for myself, i dont want a single dollar of my tax money going to this. its israels problem not ours. not a fan.

Regarding his foreign 'policies', sometimes (often) I think he just likes throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks and to see how other actors react, whether it's this or Greenland or trade tariffs etc.

Placing US troops in Gaza is ridiculous as they'd obviously attract the attention of every hostile player with an axe to grind since the West began its pointless forays in to the region.

Even if it's just talk, it's the kind of rhetoric that's likely to boost recruitment for radical anti-US groups in the Middle East and elsewhere. Why does he want our military weakened and to radicalize our enemies? Incompetence or something more sinister?

I can only imagine the shock and outrage if he proposed cutting military spending.

I agree. I was just making sure I understood Trump's proposal as it seemed to be almost farcical.

It's Trumps 4 step program for greatness
  • Eat breakfast burrito
  • "Let's turn Gaza into a Riviera!"
  • ...
  • Profit!

I can get on board with a good breakfast burrito and a Riviera. Putting the US military into a meat grinder might be a price too high. /s

hes got nothing to gain from fucking shit up on purpose

i think it boils down to the first time around he had more orthodox party men guiding him, and he was out of his element, so treaded lightly (for him) while this time around he has no accountability from his party bc everyone is kissing his ass and many of the ones hes put in his cabinet are not your traditional politicians that know how to tread political etiquete. in other words, hes emboldened this time around, which has appealed to many on certain issues, and on other issues (like his Gaza remarks) is creating concern.

I think the fascist takeover theory is not sound.

Why not just go with incompetent, nepotistic (using the term a bit loosely) and oligarchical? And corrupt (in terms of indirect exploitation of the office)?

Why does everything have to be fascism, fascism, fascism these days?

There were rallies in all 50 states and DC today. And this sign was on an overpass in your old neighborhood (Route 4, Paramus NJ). I suspect the outcries will grow louder. But as I've mentioned before, lefties aren't really the capitol-stormin' type. What could potentially happen to a POTUS who usurps powers that he's not entitled to (like in a bigly way) and who gets himself really on the wrong side of certain law enforcement and intelligence-gathering agencies is something I care to speculate about.

I'm a wee bit concerned with Musk's DOGE. It is unclear what real authority it has. And Musk is not exactly an altruistic actor. I'm not comfortable with someone like Musk taking control of the US government's data and core systems.

Keep in mind the data and systems were spread out over multiple groups within the government. Decentralization and redundancy was the point. Inefficiency was the point. Centralizing all of that control into someone like Musk may look very stupid in the near future.

Well. There was this disruption to the continuity of government:

Okay, fine, maybe the left is starting to grow some balls.
