Re: flat shoes
Merrell stuff is a nice option if you want a wider toe box. The Vapor Gloves are nearly like deadlift slippers. The trail gloves are a bit more like a regular sneaker but zero drop.
For pulling, I have no need for straps on shoes. Just my own two cents. I think for most PL work, the straps aren't needed.

I swear by Xero shoes. They're all zero-drop shoes with varying degree's of minimalism. For all lifting/training other than squats, I wear Prio Neos

All my other casual shoes are Xeros too, even winter boots. They're awesome and last forever.

I’ve squatted in…
Oly shoes with a 1” heel
Oly shoes that I had a cobbler make flat
FiveFingers
Variants of Merrell shoes
Crocs
The overall best for me when I care about squats is probably the heels. However, my main use of squatting is to maintain hip ROM now so I do goofy stuff like squatting on a bosu ball and that often happens in Merrells or Crocs.
Side note: I hate wearing Oly shoes when having to walk around. Seriously, they suck.

Re: flat shoes
These look like they have a squishy sole, almost like a tennis shoe. Am I wrong? Thanks for the suggestionomaniphil wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 9:56 am I swear by Xero shoes. They're all zero-drop shoes with varying degree's of minimalism. For all lifting/training other than squats, I wear Prio Neos

Re: flat shoes
@mgil have you pulled in heels? You DL all the time, do you think its a disadvantage to pull in squat shoes? I swear it feels better to me but I'm gonna give flats a legit try.

Re: flat shoes
I haven't tried other minimalist shoes, so can't compare, but it took me a while to get used to walking in them since they seemed so non-squishy my feet hurt. I think the stack is like 8mm or so, which is pretty thin.cole wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 3:17 pmThese look like they have a squishy sole, almost like a tennis shoe. Am I wrong? Re: flat shoes
I used to. Then I had some Oly shoes converted to flats and they were way better. However, there is a period of time you’ll need to get used to the difference and your hips might need to start the pull lower.

Re: flat shoes
I have Sabo "Goodlift" shoes which have a flat sole (no heel), and used to prefer them for squatting as well as deadlifting. They have the metatarsal strap. They do make a deadlift shoe but since Russia is now under sanctions I don't think you can buy them anywhere in North America except for clearance sales which only have a few sizes left. If you can find a pair that fit they are good shoes that will last a long time since they are very sturdily built.cole wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 8:09 am whats your alls recommendations for pulling in flats? im thinking Sabos. One shoe I see a lot is the Notorious brand - https://www.notorious-lift.com/products ... -4-stealth Probably the most widely used deadlift shoe I see nowadays at powerlifting meets.

Re: flat shoes
