Re: Landing the Whale: Beer thread
I made a batch of 3 margaritas yesterday, and my recipe when tripled calls for just over 11 oz of booze. I thought to myself, while using a cup to measure out the tequila, "well this is a little bit ridiculous."

Stone Totalitarian. It’s pretty tasty. I have a low tolerance for alcohol now, so 12 oz at 10.6% is enough.

Re: Landing the Whale: Beer thread
Had a few new beers over the weekend:
Southern Tier Psychic Laser: What a wonderful hazy IPA. Probably the best beer I've had in 2018. Give it 9-9.5/10.
Sierra Nevada Hoptimum: Ehh this was just okay. A little more boozy tasting than I like which covered the hops. Would buy it again, but I'm not going out of my way for it. 7.5-8/10.

Opened a 2016 Brewery Vivant Stone Fruit Sour yesterday for "Mothers Day" since my wife didn't really want it Sun or Mon. Don't think it changed much, still very sour, very cidery, very good.

Re: Landing the Whale: Beer thread
Got my first Tavour delivery yesterday. It came well packed, no issues with leaks or breakage.
I ordered a lot, although I mostly stuck to the less expensive end of their offerings (2 12 or 16 ounce cans for $7-8, 22 oz for 7.99). With $15 flat rate shipping for a couple dozen cans I don't think it was much more expensive than the $14ish dollar 4 packs I tend to get.
I tried my first two last night:
Galaxy High by MadTree Brewing. Imperial IPA, super super fruity aroma, was a little astringent and more spicy/dank than fruity in taste.
Straight to Ale by Velvet Evil. Old Ale with chocolate, coffee, raspberry. Very strong smell of raspberry, then a little chocolate, didn't get so much coffee. Not my usual style but really glad I tried it, delicious. Didn't realize it but it's also like 11.5% ABV, very little alcohol bite. I'm going to try and get more of this one...

Re: Landing the Whale: Beer thread
Last night:
Perennial Hopfentea. Fucking disgusting. Not a big sour fan and this did nothing to change my mind.
Neshaminy Leon imperial stout. Brewed with lots of marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate. Had a sweet dessert flavor and a nice graham cracker undertone but I didn't really get marshmallow "sweet." Pretty good but I liked the chocolate raspberry ale better for a dessert beer.
Tonight :
Anchorage Brewing Corvus. Really nicely balanced DIPA. Little dankness, some non-descript fruitiness. Wouldn't go way out of my way for it but enjoyed it.

Had a chocolate caramel sea salt beer over the weekend, was very good.
Tried another Summer Beer candidate: New Holland Xtra Time. Supposed to be a kolsh, actually dumped about 1/4 of it. Just totally not worth the time it took to drink- it didn't taste BAD, but it more just didn't taste. Just none.

Re: Landing the Whale: Beer thread
I've had a few NE IPAs recently, and I'm annoyed that I am enjoying a trend. Still haven't been grabbed by anything that makes me want to stick with it all summer.
I might stop using Untappd after I hit 1,000. I don't care about the rankings any more, and more often than not it has been causing me to do something the owner of my local place talked about on a tour I did- give someone a beer, and you sometimes get "wow, that's the best beer I've ever had!" so you say "alright, awesome! Can I get you another one?" and they say "Hmm, no, do you have anything new?"
It's the whole "collecting" mindset I've gotten myself caught up into.

If you told me Genessee Cream Ale cost $11 a six pack, I’d believe you. But it’s $4-5.
Easily my favorite cheap beer.

Re: Landing the Whale: Beer thread
So I realized yesterday I had finished off all my "Summer Beer" candidates, and didn't particularly like any of them. Outside NE styles and an occasional big, catty, pine-and-weed hop aroma bomb, I just don't care about IPAs any more?
On the plus side, all I need to do to hit 1,000 unique beers this year is average 1 new beer a week.

Had the chance to swing by Troegs yesterday after a work outing. They have Nimble Giant on draft. I LOVE this beer. Definitely dangerous though since it's 9% and doesn't have any hint of a boozy taste.

How does Bell's expedition stout age? I bought a 6-pack 3 or 4 years ago and drank 1 bottle. Didn't particularly care for it compared to other imperial stouts. Maybe it'll be better now?
