Really pleased to see Gibbs hold on to his Deads and hit WR Squat, Benches (twice for a couple of minutes) and Total.

No.
Nor should she have been.
She (admirably) kept the bar in her hands despite the spotter utterly failing the catch.

Don't get me wrong, the spotting was shocking but I wondered if the Refs considered that dumping by the Lifter.
I absolutely agree Squats should be in Monolift-type Jobby with straps, then no one has to get hurt at all.

Yeah, again, she held onto the bar until the weights were literally on the floor, even though she was bent backward.ChrisMcCarthy1979 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 8:07 am Don't get me wrong, the spotting was shocking but I wondered if the Refs considered that dumping by the Lifter.

She was not warned. And the refs have not been shy about warnings for dumping.

93kg Men - What happened with the
SpoilerShow
Brazilian's 3rd deadlift? I guess they called him for hitching? I watched it in again at .25 speed and while his knees go in and out a bit it didn't look like a deliberate hitching motion, they were just shaky because he was grinding so hard.

Yeah, that was bullshit IMO. Edit: After watching it a few more times, I dunno. Maybe a good call. Watch as it passes just above the knee.TimK wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 10:39 am 93kg Men - What happened with the

I don't know, watched it a few more times and I didn't see the downward movement. The bar was shaking, and it stopped moving entirely for a second, but then it went up.

Pain to see depth in Sumner's set-up...

Re: IPF Classic Worlds 2018
So how dumb is the whole "Must be at Worlds to set a world record" thing? When you have people setting "world records" that are less than the national record they set previously, why should anyone be excited? The rules and judging are supposed to be the same between national and world events, right?
SpoilerShow
Daniella Melo squatted 213 for a "world record" but she squatted 222.5 at the Arnold in March. Not trying to take anything away from her, she's strong as fuck and holds the world record either way, I just don't get the rule.
Also does anyone really care about spoilers in this thread? I saw someone else use the tag earlier so I followed suit...

They're supposed to be, but they're not...World Records need to be set at International competitions with (what should be) fairer judging.
Weightlifting is also the same.

Re: IPF Classic Worlds 2018
Hmm, I hadn't thought about that. I can see the rationale. But still, it seems like they could figure out a better system to ensure fairness though. Like if someone sets a world record, the video (from predetermined angles, etc.) needs to be submitted to an international panel for verification. I don't know, to me it seems logical that if someone sets a world record it should be a weight that no one has ever lifted before under those rules and judging.ChrisMcCarthy1979 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 1:07 pm They're supposed to be, but they're not...World Records need to be set at International competitions with (what should be) fairer judging.

Re: IPF Classic Worlds 2018
Thats true, but there's always a way to make it work. I wouldn't want people to lose fingers with straps dangling around the bar.

Re: IPF Classic Worlds 2018
Some feds just need you to have judges from other countries. Isn't that the case with the IPF?TimK wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 1:34 pmHmm, I hadn't thought about that. I can see the rationale. Re: IPF Classic Worlds 2018
Melo just smashed the world record total by 13kg on her opening deadlift. At 19 years old. Wow.

Re: IPF Classic Worlds 2018
Well, I think it is not just the Judging on the platform that is the issue but also that the whole session / meet is run to the acceptable standard, along with the doping control etc.TimK wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 1:34 pmHmm, I hadn't thought about that. It is highly likely the IPF are just mirroring the IWF Standard to further their cause for Olympic Inclusion.
