Re: 5k accomplished. Slowly. New goal: Half Marathon.
2023 June 13 Tuesday (Grip Day)
Fat Grip Deads: 210 x 5 x 5 (PR!!!!!)
Standing Fat Grip Wrist Curls: 150 x 5s x 10r
Fat Grip Overhand Curls: 60 x 6 x 6
Scap Chins: 5s x 10r
#######################################
Was excited to PR in fat grip deadlifts. Definitely felt my thumbs working hard.
Maybe I’ll try Rolling Thunder on Thursday and see if I can set a new PR.

2023 June 14 Wed
Main
Deads: 440 x 3s x 5r (straps)
Deads: 360 x 3s x 5r (double overhand, no hook, no straps)
Bench: 280 x 4s x 1r
Bench: 260 x 5 x 5
Bench: 250 x 1s x 5r
T-Bar Rows: 210 x 5s x 10r
Aux
Skull Crushers: 75 x 5s x 8r
EZ Curls: 100 x 6 x 6
Tib Curls: 25 x 3s x 12r
Reverse Hyper: 160 x 5s x 10r
Tonnage
Deads: (6,600 + 5,400) = 12,000
Bench: (1,120 + 6,500 + 1,250) = 8,870)
T-Bar Rows: 10,500
Arms: (3,000 + 3,000) = 6,000
————————————————————————-
Total: 37,370
###################################
The double overhand 360 x 3s x 5r deadlifts might be a PR. And weren’t that difficult. But my fingers got torn up. I’ll take the W and from here out focus more on the Fat Gripz Deads. Think my grips get a better workout and it’s easier on my gentle, ladylike hands.
Think the reason the double overhand Deads were easy is because of recent grip work.

Good times.
After a few weeks of grip work I decided to test a new 1RM on my knockoff Titan Rolling Thunder. Failed. Stuck at 135. F. 142.5 would have been a new PR.
I’ll try again next weekend.
In the meantime I’ve ordered a Saxon bar. Maybe to fill the emptiness in my soul. Maybe to improve finger strength. Maybe both.
I ordered a Saxon bar.

Re: 5k accomplished. Slowly. New goal: Half Marathon.
2023 June 17 Saturday Morning
Run: 90 minutes
##############
With this slow run/walk I do it’s a victory for me to get 5 miles in an hour. Today was a new record, 5 miles in 58 minutes. Exciting part of that PR isn’t the PR itself though, it’s that I did it in the last 60 minutes of a 90 mile run.
Progress is progress.

Great lifting session.
I was slow between sets. Maybe bc of the heat? Idk. Lifting outside, in the South, in the Summer, is some shit. Great shit, but still shit.
The heat meant I ran slow, ran out of time, I missed a few exercises. It is what it is.
I read this short bio on Bob Peoples, the first guy to deadlift over 700. Got into both this weird form and his training persistence. It took him 21 years, with many hiccups along the way, to break 700.
Also, the stuff about him barely benching 200? Turns out that may not be accurate. Articles gets into that as well.

It’s funny how you can a totally made up internet picture of folks in your head. I had no idea that you were down south or lifted outdoors. Do you mind if I ask where you’re at, generally? I just flew up to New York from Louisiana yesterday and the thirty degree drop in temperature is most welcome, despite that I’d mostly rather be down there.

I lift in my garage with the garage door open in the summer, closed in winter.
Louisiana and NY both seem like awesome places.

Re: 5k accomplished. Slowly. New goal: Half Marathon.
Ha, yes, I went to Richmond undergrad and am very familiar. A few good college friends still live in VA in the DC outskirts. I get down once a year or so; as soon as I get out of my car, the scent of the air brings me right back to being 19 again.
I’m north of the city when in NY. Not into the city at all, not for any of the mostly false media driven reasons, but as I got older I lost interest in the time, effort, and cost involved. I’m definitely a suburbs guy. If I had my druthers, I’d go much further north - I love upstate NY - but I met someone from LA (long story) and now live there about 70% of the time. I’m not blind to the state’s many significant issues, and recognize that I have privileges that many residents don’t, but with those things said and acknowledged, I really enjoy living there. Life comes at you fast…
Niiiiice.

This is a reprint from an old article actually written by Bob Peoples. Highlights from article include:
(1) Peoples used straps. Didn’t want to burn out his grip and not be able to lift heavy.
(2) Peoples fabricated lots of his own equipment, including a squat rack and lifting straps.
(3) Peoples lifted every day. Every day. Which is why this article showed up on Perryman’s log. Squatting every day? That’s one thing. But deadlifting every day? Yikes.

Saxon bar came today. Never tried one before bc I always thought they were dumb. I was wrong.
The pinch grip workout I thought I was at least minimally getting from fat bar work? Nothing compared to the Saxon bar.
Forgot to mention this as a bullet in my description of the Bob Peoples article last night, but another suggestion Peoples made was to train your grip often, likely in opposition to others who advocated for training more sparingly. Peoples advised that your grip would toughen up and get used to the more frequent training. Which is why I did grip today. For the past 2 weeks I’d thought training grip 2x/week was good. I’m going to shoot for 3x/week and see what happens.
