I didn't see that for the first time until I went to college in super Catholic Wisconsin. I legit told a couple people "you've got something on your forehead" before I caught on (it's not always a super well defined cross)

welp, i bet it was an honest mistake, and the teacher (being Utah...probably an LDS thing) had never seen or heard of that in her locality.

I grew up Catholic. Went to Catholic private school until 4th grade. etc. I remember Ash Wed.
We didn't run around for any length of time with stuff still on our forehead.
But yeah, who the fuck would know nowadays.
Honestly it probably sounded like made up bullshit coming from the kid, which is doubly funny IF the teacher has an LDS background.
ha ha ha ha ha

But its going to be spun as a impinging religious freedom thing.

Yesterday was the first time I actually saw anyone with the dirt on their forehead thing. There were a handful of super old people at the grocery store, and my one weird cousin who isn't catholic with 5-6 pics of it on her Instagram story.

Are there actually Catholics in GR? I doubt it.

More than you might think. Some good friends of mine, sadly, and I see a ton of Catholic AM Radio bumper stickers.

This might actually qualify as stranger than fiction - I learned recently that the Catholic church nearly prevented the Philosophy department from existing at the university I work for. Apparently the compromise was a de facto requirement that professors had to basically work to proselytize for the Catholic church in courses on religion. Most of that generation is gone, and its transitioned to a more normal philosophy department, but that blew my (naive) mind.

You Catholics are tough, though. In the latest wrestling rankings, five of the top 10 high schools are Catholic schools.

They get used to taking a beating early?

Hipster angry that someone used his image to illustrate that all hipsters look alike. Turns out it's not a picture of him.

I saw that yesterday. It was hilarious. They went and found the model's contract and confirmed that it was someone else.

They do all look different in the exact same way. I look too much like an aging hipster, but I can't figure a way out of it other than wearing a bow tie. And that's not going to happen. I don't have any hipster style tattoos and I don't wear foreskin style hats. So there's that. I stopped wearing jeans because they are all too tight. I will probably shave my slight beard. I need to get contacts too. . . .

The “non-conformists look alike” theory is something every kid should figure out by high school. The edgier the group, the more they looked alike.

We don't have much variety now days. There used to be the jocks, metal heads, goths, chess club nerds, greasers (in another era), preppies, skin heads, white people co-opting black culture types, and some others.

In progressive coastal cities you mainly find the "allies" with purple hair and asymmetrical hair cuts and the standard hipster type.

What's the type that this store is marketed to? I'm more susceptible to some of this faux outdoorsy marketing than I'd like to be. If I had more money, I'd probably have a Range Rover, because, you know, there are lots of pot holes around here. . . .

Edit: I guess this is just hipster. Is there some kind of conversion therapy I can go to?

Ha, you'll actually need an off-road vehicle to drive on our roads. Just last week they reported another missing vehicle. It was last see before entering a pothole. They can't remember which one so they'll just search every pothole on this 3km road. They'll probably abort the search by the end of the year like they always do.

Me, apparently. I get Huckberry ads on Insta and Facebook constantly. Was mildly tempted by some of the duffles, since I am somewhat in the market for an adult travel bag.

Sarah Lawrence students demand two free meals a day (for food insecure students at the $67k/year college), free fabric softener for all (see #3), and racial segregation, among other things.
