Figure 8 Straps
My old cheap Harbinger straps are tearing
I've had a pair of Ironmind Sew Easy that I don't like
I thought I'd try some figure 8 straps after reading up on them / watching some videos
I've bought 2 junk pairs that must have been made for SHWs deadlifting on an axle bar (aka they are way too big)
Pioneer's are $37 shipped, but I really didn't want to spend that much.. especially now that I'm already $25 in the hole
Spud Inc's are $21 shipped
Any other options out there?

Any preference for cotton or nylon? Cinch style over straight loop?

I bought the giants brand figure 8 straps. They work well for pulling on bars, but you are limited to that (no supine gut pulls or dumbells).

That's called a "sunk cost fallacy".
If you spent $100 twice on cheap barbells, then someone told you to buy the Rogue OPB, but then you said "I don't want to spend that much because I'm already out $200", that doesn't somehow make spending less money able to procure you a better option.
I have no opinion on figure 8 straps.

I'd prefer cotton.. my Ironmind are nylon and they are too slick.damufunman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:57 pm Any preference for cotton or nylon? Cinch style over straight loop?
Straight loop I think?

Re: Figure 8 Straps
I'm just saying that I'm not going to spend $30 on a pair of wrist straps. If that means no figure 8, then I'll go buy another pair of $7 cheap cotton wrist straps.. especially at this point.Cody wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2018 3:31 am That's called a "sunk cost fallacy".

Check this out, might help the slickness of the Ironminds.gtl wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2018 3:42 amI'd prefer cotton.. my Ironmind are nylon and they are too slick.damufunman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:57 pm Any preference for cotton or nylon? Cinch style over straight loop?

How many times have you used your Iron Minds? They're about as good as straps get once they're broken in.

Re: Figure 8 Straps
I just don't like the style and they were hard to use. You suppose breaking them in would change that?

Re: Figure 8 Straps
Depends what you didn't like about them. They get more grippy with wear and a bit of scuffing, and once they're worn enough they curl up they're a lot easier to put on.

Re: Figure 8 Straps
I just think they are hard to put on and setup. Grip doesn't feel as solid as the traditional strap styles.

Re: Figure 8 Straps
I think that style is supposed to be slightly less secure, so that they can be released easier/quicker for snatching and dropping the bar from the top of pulls because Olympic weightlifters don't like lowering the bar from the hip, apparently.

I mean I've pulled 600+ with them oodles of times. I find them both easier and quicker to use than lasso style straps and equally secure.damufunman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 9:50 amI think that style is supposed to be slightly less secure, so that they can be released easier/quicker for snatching and dropping the bar from the top of pulls because Olympic weightlifters don't like lowering the bar from the hip, apparently.![]()
