Re: The Strongman Thread
How strong do I need to be to not embarrass myself in strongman? My max strict press is 205 lbs and I tried to replicate that a week ago and couldn't do it haha. I would obviously need to be stronger than now but by how much?

Re: The Strongman Thread
My go-to answer is you're strong enough now if you're already interested. That's precisely what the novice class is for at contests. Even if you think you'll zero everything, you can go, try out the implements/movements, and might surprise yourself. Regardless you gain experience, connections, and I promise you that you'll never find a more supportive group of guys/girls than at a strongman show.

Re: The Strongman Thread
I think @mouse advice is pretty sound for you. Sign up for a local meet or a novice category. Strongman has weight classes so you should be competing against guys that are roughly your size.
Find out the events and weights as soon as they are posted and start training them. I was ranting the other day about competing against juice monsters. However I have been able to get some Ws on events by being better trained on moving and loading events.
Lots of times events are awkward and having tried them or similar things is a big advantage. Dudes that come in strong AF can sometimes not do so well in endurance/ awkward movement events. Just be prepared to loose to them in max effort events

Re: The Strongman Thread
It's true that the 'strongest' guy doesn't always win. Just because a dude is super strong at static events doesn't mean he can also move with weight.
I've taken points away from dudes who are way stronger than me through strategy. Example: in a max deadlift event Guy A goes 585/635/675 and Guy B goes 635/675 and waves his third attempt, Guy B gets more points even though they tied because he opened heavier.

Re: The Strongman Thread
I've beaten 400 lb monsters in the arm over arm truck pull and much stronger guys in the log press because they can't use their legs. You'll figure out some advantages, and like @mouse said, you'll basically have a TON of coaches on every event.mouse wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 8:59 amIt's true that the 'strongest' guy doesn't always win. Re: The Strongman Thread
Honestly I'm not sure on anyone at the moment haha
It's such a weird year, there's so many new faces, and there's so many random things that will factor in... for example... we are already a day behind now because of the hurricane which might screw up the new guys, and whoever gets stuck doing LMS Stone now doesn't have a day of rest before the finals... so it's super up in the air...
As far as who podiums in no specific order? Shaw as long as he stays healthy, one of the Stoltmans (haha), and maybe Maxime... maybe even between Maxime and Singleton. I do feel like the universe is really pulling for a 5th Shaw title if that's worth anything... but man it's anyone's game with delays and events changing...

Re: The Strongman Thread
It is anyone's game right now for sure. That LMS screws those guys for the final for sure. That is a rough event. I like Brian I would love to see him win a 5th I just don't know that he has it in him anymore.mouse wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 3:11 amHonestly I'm not sure on anyone at the moment haha

I think your other predictions are pretty accurate. Maybe throw Bishop in that top mix also?

Re: The Strongman Thread
Some results so far from the first day/first event (max distance farmers) of qualifiers...
Pritchett wins group 1, Evan Singleton wins group 2, Novikov wins Group 3 (Maxime in 2nd, Tom S in 3rd), Terry Hollands wins group 5! (Shaw in 2nd!), Group 4 is still going...

I think Evan is hungry and may get the Win. I watch some of his training vids and he is looking strong AFmouse wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 11:30 am Some results so far from the first day/first event (max distance farmers) of qualifiers...
