Week 12 Day 3
2nd Hypertrophy Mesocycle
Deload Week
Paused DL
315 x 6 @ 6,6,6
Comp Bench
175 x 8 @ 6,8
Pin Squat
Above Parallel
275 x 6 @ 6
MB Russian Twists
25 x 15 x 2
Back Raises
BW x 12 x 3
Leg Press
Sled + 270 x 10 x 3
Notes
They call pin squats "dead squat" in the app, which I've never heard/used before. I'll be using pin squat. The half-rack I'm using lately doesn't have the greatest spacing, so it was either a bit above parallel or too deep--I had to round my upper back to reach the pins.
Bench was kinda heavy today; not sure why.
Storytime
Went to the eye doctor for my annual exam today. It's at a chain place, MyEyeDr, and the doctors there are usually fine. But holy shit is the place expensive if you buy glasses from them.
My son wears glasses, and we bought his initial pair from them. With vision insurance subsidizing some of the cost, his glasses were $100. Without the insurance, it would have been $250 or more. Anyway, I wanted to get some glasses to match him so that he'd feel supported, but I couldn't get an appointment as soon as I wanted. So I used an old Rx to buy glasses from an online retailer. They don't take insurance, but for $68.85 shipped, I was able to get prescription glasses with blue light blocking, anti-reflective coating, and transition lenses. Um, yes please. No more buying from a brick and mortar store.
We got another pair for my son when he needed a new Rx for $29.85 shipped, and they were much nicer than the ones we got from the store. He had another new Rx at the beginning of this summer, and for $64.85 shipped, he has a prescription pair of glasses with the transition lenses.
So today, for shits and giggles, I asked how much it would cost to replace just the lenses in some glasses I bought from the store--prior to using the online place--in 2019. They wanted $180 for replacing the lenses, and the lady was ready to run my card without telling me the price. "$180? Oh, nevermind."

Re: Alek and the Infinite If Machine
I think pin squats just above parallel are fine.

Re: Alek and the Infinite If Machine
It's definitely going to be a different kind of stimulus since I have to start the concentric differently than I've done during the entirety of my training.
Also, I almost have to stop reading your log. Every time you start talking about what you've learned from Austin's training, I get antsy to throw out the app.

I will learn from your experiment with the app and you can learn from my experiment.alek wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:57 amIt's definitely going to be a different kind of stimulus since I have to start the concentric differently than I've done during the entirety of my training.

Re: Alek and the Infinite If Machine
Don't get me wrong. I do like the app, and I'm going to use it all the way through the meet in November. I've also learned a lot about myself and programming since using it; for that I'm very grateful. I'm also expecting big things at the meet--hoping for +10kg on each of my lifts.
I've found that I just really like doing my own programming, and given the things I've learned so far from the app, I'm excited to give it a go again.

Week 12 Day 4
2nd Hypertrophy Mesocycle
Deload Week
Comp Bench
150 x 10 @ 6,6,6,7
Paused Squat
250 x 6,5
Bentover Rows
135 x 10 x 3
DB RDLs
80's x 10 x 2
Facepulls
55 x 10,12,12
Close Grip Pushups
BW x 12 x 3
DB Alt Curls
25's x 10 x 3
Notes
This ends the hypertophy blocks of this macrocycle. Start the first strength mesocycle on Monday; it looks like it's a 4 week block with decreasing volume as intensity increases. I'm doing two of those before a 4 week peaking mesocycle.
I've generally enjoyed the training during these two hypertrophy blocks although I'd probably opt for more sets of fewer reps if/when I do this style of training again. I'm interested to see how I respond to block periodization training--this is the first legit time I've followed such a program that I can remember.

First day of strength focus; comp squat felt a little awkward. I also didn't use my knee sleeves today--I'm going to buy I just bought a bigger pair (in navy! I hate black) because I think I've given myself a lower leg "injury" from wearing the ones I have even though they're really too small now.

Easy session.
It's been a weird week--we're taking the kids on their first flight on Saturday, and I feel like a chicken running around with no head. I had to get a new phone yesterday, and I'm going to miss a workout this week--that always makes me anxious. I'll miss at least one next week, too.
