TEST DAY

Friday April 13, 2018

Squat

315 lbs x 1
335 lbs x 1 @ 9.5

Bench
225 lbs x 1
245 lbs x 1 @ 9.5

DL
405 lbs x 1
445 lbs x 1 (PR)
455 lbs x 1 (PR)

Notes: Squats have been feeling 'off' for quite some time (pre Montana Method), so we attempted 95% of my E1RM for this cycle of 350 lbs. It actually felt heavier than I thought it would. Bench was very disappointing. I wanted to try 245-265-and a PR attempt of 275, but 245 was hard. We based this cycle on an E1RM of 255, which we bumped up 5 lbs after two weeks because coach said everything looked too easy. Still, 245 is the heaviest I've benched in 10 months. Now, the DL has been feeling great for a while, and I would have been super pissed not to PR this. Old PR was 430 lbs. Was going to go for a 10 lb PR, but my last warm up felt so good, I bumped it up to 445 which was a solid lift. I was going to settle for a nice 15 lb PR, but it appeared to me after watching the video there was more there. 455 was hard, but never a doubt it was going to go once I got it to the knees. One more thing to note. My stress levels have been through the roof these past two weeks, so not sure if that affected the bench. Here is the DL PR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjv8Dq_OPT0

@MikeMullany Congratulations on the deadlift PR! Really held your form through the rep. My experience of bench e1RM vs the real thing was fairly similar. I was sure I’d blast through at least 5lbs more than I ended up getting - and that was a real battle.
What are your issues with squats?

Thanks cb. Squat issue is really a left quad issue. It just doesn't feel right is the best way I can say it. I do come up on my toes as well, but that has been a while now. Hanley told me I should think 'lead with the chest' more, as I got too into my hips with the heavy attempt.

@MikeMullany I hope the quad recovers soon. I hadn't been videoing my lifts much before working with Hanley and had convinced myself my squat was a thing of beauty. Hanley put me right!

You know, he has told me my mechanics look fine(I usually video the first and/or last lift for him), just the heavy single got a little too 'hippy'. I'm signed up for another month, and it looks a little different. I think the plan is to up the volume a bit, and handle heavier weights a little more often.

April 16, 2018

Squat

252 lbs x 5,5,5,5,5,5

Bench
182 lbs x 5,5,5,5,5,5,5

SGDL
250 lbs x 5,5,5,5

Notes: 2 minutes rest between sets on the squat and bench. SGDL's had me huffing and puffing a bit.

Taking a little break from MM programming. I've got too much shit I've been dealing with these last few weeks, and am completely fried. I let Hanley know that I probably chose the worst time in my life to work with him. He suggested getting reps around 70-75% in for a few weeks. Just messed around these past two days, and the only reason I got any WO's in was because I took a few days off from work.

Monday May 7, 2018

Press

105 lbs x 2,2,2,2,2,2,3,3

Pulldowns
60 lbs x 12
80 lbs x 12
90 lbs x 12
80 lbs x 12

Press
85 lbs x 6,7,8

Incline Bench
105 lbs x 16,5,5,5,4

Notes: Did a little Hepburn progression with the press, some pumping/BB type stuff with the pulldowns, and played around with myo reps on the CG's.

Tuesday May 8, 2018

Press

100 lbs x 1,1,1,1,1
110 lbs x 1,1,1,1,1
120 lbs x 1,1,1,1,1
125 lbs x 1
130 lbs x 1
135 lbs x 1
140 lbs x 1 @ 9.5

Squat
135 lbs x 5
225 lbs x 2
245 lbs x 2
265 lbs x 2
275 lbs x 2
285 lbs x 2
275 lbs x 2
265 lbs x 2

Bench
135 lbs x 6
155 lbs x 6
175 lbs x 6
185 lbs x 6
175 lbs x 6
165 lbs x 6

Notes: Had some ART done on my quads yesterday. IT band has been tight, and I think that may have contributed to my squats feeling 'off' for quite some time. Also, did this WO in my Chuck Taylors to see if I can get off my toes and prevent my heels from lifting on the ascent. They looked a little better, but not great by any means. Did a 6 mile, 1000' elevation gain hike on Sunday to begin preparing for a few big ones in June.
