10-3-2022 MON.

Tried to sprint before football practice.
Was not expecting a lot from this session, but it was fall break and he wanted to sprint.
Saturday (two days ago), he was still feeling beat up after Friday's game ....he made similar comments Sun as well.
Sunday he lifted (light) lower body. Friday was the game, in which he had cramps ....
....probably not a good idea.

(3) 20 m fly sprints. MesqHS track, spikes, Freelap.
....first two attempt were not bad considering; last one was trash.
Average was not bad (once again .... considering)

FB practice in the PM

10-4-2022 TUE
FB Practice

10-5-2022 WED.
Weights/full body in around 1 pm
Then FB Practice in the PM

Drama:
The younger brother QB is still 'out' in concussion protocol or whatever. He's not even dinged, but I think the AT is overly paranoid now with the Tua thing going on. Good news is his older brother (QB that can throw!) has been getting all the reps in practice: 1-our run offense sucks & 2-MJH is a WR !. Problem is TJ (the RB) has been on vacation, so MJH has been getting all the RB reps in practice .... this is not his forte (putting it lightly).

10-7-2022 FRI. GAME

got killed, again.
The 2nd offense play of the game, the boy had a short pass for a 83 yard TD.
A couple of other nice plays ....but that's it.

They put him in for running back, as the starting RB was on vacation.
It was fall break week, several kids were on vacation.
Other (non-prep) teams do not miss practice or games during spring break....
Most our kids don't take this shit it seriously. I wouldn't mind so much if this were basketball, baseball, etc.
But its pretty much combat, on a field. Kids are going to get hurt, or get their teammates hurt, because they're so ill prepared.

One other "good kid" didn't play because the trainer f'd up the concussion protocol stuff.
His doctor cleared him, but some procedural stuff didn't get done, so he had to sit this game for no reason.

Our O-line can't block; or our D-line (same kids) can't tackle or handle things up front in general.
Both QBs aren't good. Total shit show. Thank god he had that one long TD to keep his spirits up.
I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to play next year ..... pretty depressing.

the current system for small schools (and all high schools) is not working.

scores in across our division from this weekend:

And two forfeits on top of all that.

Hold on, its gets better .... the following are scores from two similarly ranked opponents.
GC(#10) vs CP (#20): 45-0
SPA(#6) vs VC(#11): 28-0
SCA(#7) VS MPA(#25): 62-16
BHS(#17) vs THS(#18): 30-16 (still almost doubled them up pointswise)
MorHS (#1) vs STC(#9): 64-13

Hold on ....wait a minute:
SPA(#12) LOST vs SabHS: 40-73
oh wait, SabHS is the next bigger division above SPA ....so that figures actually.

About the only semi-competitive game was:
MTNHS 20 vs St.JCHS 34

This week is sort of a bye-week, as our opponent shit canned their entire season about 5 weeks ago. We could not find a replacement to play.

10-10-2022 MON
Weights at school. Upper body ....son said they did everything (upper wise).
Then a 2-1/2 practice on the field ?!?!

10-11-2022 TUE
Weights at school. Lower body ....son said they did everything (squats, front squats, lunges, BSS, etc)
Then another 2-1/2 practice on the field ?!?!?!
Son says he's just wore out tired....and slow

Coach is funny.
Like taking up weights all of the sudden mid-season is going to have net-adaption-gain that will translate to anything.
Weird. Kids will just be sore and inflamed (only a few kids have been lifting on their own during the season).

Also, TJ quit. At least that's how the coach phrased it ....
He "dislocated" his finger in practice on Monday, and his dad pulled him out for the remainder of the season.
His dad was always anti-football before the season started, and said (this is all via my son) he wanted him to do basketball and that was the priority.
So I guess he didn't see the point with only 2 games left, and 3 weeks of practice left....
He's only a running back, could never catch well, and he could still play defense ....but whatever.
Also, I think the last three games were disheartening on everyone.
TJ is a freshman (but sophomore age) kid. Explosive and fast, but short at 5'7" or 8 or so .... I'm not sure how well he's going to do at HS basketball.

WEIGHTS at FB Practice. Full body. But mostly bullshit.
Then a full dlown FB practice.

10-14 Fri
Game cancelled. Opponent shut down their season. TOTAL REST.

10-15 Sat.
Sprint: New magik spikes. (4) 20m flys, track, nice out. Posted good times.
LIFT LOWER afterwards.
A bunch of shit, but TRAP BAR LH: 275*5*3

10-16 Sun.
LIFT UPPER. Bunch of BS, but BP:185*1, 155*6, 155*5*2

10-17 Mon.
An easy FB practice, and he wanted to sprint afterwards. I said ok.

7:30 pm run time; ~80F
(3) 20m flys. Very good times. PRed 1.97.
CVHS Track w/ maxflys.
...note: this track seems hard AF.

funny, on the 2nd run, he forgot to put the chip back on between runs ...while we were resting.
Yelled the f-word as he was going thru the last cone when he realized his mistake.
The 1.97 was on the first. 2.03 on the 3rd.
Doing the video of the one he messed up, I get maybe 2.07....but that method is sketch.
The warmup was 2.18.

They did a long practice. Instead of conditioning, they did ....

....lying down barrel rolls the length of the football field. And then they had to run back.
That was it.
Everyone ran crooked for a few strides.
One kid threw up due to nausea.


I think they are trying to take their foot off the gas so to speak.
.... but instead of running a few high performance short sprints or something that would make sense .....they do this shit.

Whatever.

Got destroyed, again. I think the team has given up collectively.
Even MJH looked slow, and "disengaged".
None of the lineman block, or tackle. Team is slow.
Plays are too complicated; even running plays, blocking schemes are weird, and the kids don't seem to know what to do.

10-22-2022 SAT.
Lifted upper body. Bad day

10-23-2022 SUN,

Hit CVHS track. 2 other friends of his came to workout with us.
(4) 20m flys. Times were OK.
A lot of wind, but mostly a hard crosswind .... still fucking with us I think.
Lifted legs with one of his buds at ESporta.


NOTES:
A couple of the kids are talking about transferring out.
There's a hiccup transferring from his school in the public school system.
A few of the classes he's taken won't transfer.
Human Letters doesn't equal English, or History .... the the public school system.
You'd have to take make up classes or summer school.
The wife really fucked up by putting him in this school.

I wouldn't be surprised if several of the kids don't play football next year, my son included.
They don't enough athletes .... athletic kids.
The current team is 25 total; 6 seniors will graduate; there's only 3 juniors; and maybe 3 sophomores....the rest are freshman....who aren't big contributors. One of the freshman is good/athletic, but way too small.

TJ (freshman, but sophomore aged) is good, fast, etc. He should go focus on basketball. He got talked into this mess.

Whole thing is fucked. If MJ decides not to play, and doesn't transfer, I'm going to see if he'll do archery.

Excellent idea for future ACCEL. days in our track programming.
Block starts of the high jump are into the turf !
Trying to come up with ideas to limit spike (pounding on body) use in the off-season/preseason.

10-28-2022 FRI - GAME!

Won 22-6 against a (kinda) bad team.
Boy had only one catch, was targeted two or three other times, but bad throws.
He had an interception though ! And it was a legit one .... like not just picking off a wounded-duck of a throw to no mans land. Was a nifty catch too.
Also, recovered a muffed-punt/fumble. A few tackles.
He played the whole game except for a few PATs and a FG.....there were 160 plays! (including false starts, etc....but still!).

10-29-2022 SAT - he wanted to lift upper.

About average times. Son was all poo-poo-ing his progress. I had to show him he was actually below his trend line on a scatter plot chart I keep.
I track everything!

11-6-2022 SUN.

CVHS. ACCEL DAY.
(7) 30m block starts.
Then did a quick full body workout in gym.
He needs to project out a little farther on the first two steps, and his upper back could be a little straighter....
...and first three steps he lifts a feet up off the ground a bit too much.
....I was expecting total trash as its the first doing block starts in what seems like forever....but wasn't too bad.

CVHS. 5:30PM. nice out. Zero wind.

(3) 30m flys with 6-7 min rests.
First time doing 30m.
Hit a 3.06 on one.

Thinking about it 10m flys seem ....dumb ....outside of a noob, or taking a 10fly time at the end of a 40y or 50m sprint. Some internet sprint gurus use 10flys as a training Rx. It takes a lot of mojo expenditure to GET UP TO top speed, even with a non-balls-to-the-wall acceleration. But with 20's or 30's you just stay at top speed instead of having to do it all over again.....that is, IF the athlete can maintain it....which after a while they should be able to (at LEAST 20m).

I can't really bitch much about anything seen here.
Maybe only thing is: in the figure-four position, his support leg could be straighter. The knee is flexed a bit much showing a lack of stiffness-strength there. IMO, all this shit just falls into place as the athlete gets faster and stronger .....stronger from sprinting, not weight-room-strong.

Funny, IMO, coaching stuff like this, and Olympic lifts, is more hands-off to be effective.... the lifts (or sprinting) can coach the athlete if you just know how to explain it, or make the athlete feel it correctly.
