4-21-2023. Meet. Was a big meet, lots of big schools

100m a better time, but not PR. 10th
200m ok time, 4th, medal

4-22-2023. Meet . Smaller meet, mostly small schools, but a few big ones....his old track coach's new school.
.
4x100 2nd. New school record.
4x400 1st. He ran the anchor and when he took the baton the other guy was 50 m in front of him, no lie....he ran that dude down and won by 0.02. I had him at a 49.28 split. Everyone yelling and whatnot; his mom peed her pants a bit

4-23-2023. Rest of course

EDIT:

so much for try to stay low key

he made the "news"

https://az.milesplit.com/articles/33270 ... division-v

Sure Division 5 are all the smallest schools.....but he's ranked around #25 tp #33 in the 100, the 200, and the 400.

I don't think anyone ranked higher (in State, all divisions) than him in the 100 and 200, has a better 400.
And like wise the reverse, I think there maybe only a couple of kids who have better 400's AND 200's, but maybe not 100's.
Maybe there's some exceptions there or some guy I'm missing .... but again, probably ZERO of them are 10th graders.

IOW: He's a complete sprinter.

The 400 makes me the most proud, as you just have to suck it the fuck up, and just eat that shit and smile the last 100m of the 400.
Fucking guys that run the 100 and 200 and not the 400 are total fucking pussies. (or they run it but shit time).
Seriously, you can get faster, easier, at the 100 and 200 if you don't have to fuck around with lactate training for the 400 too.
I hope he can get 49.99 or less this year .... but I doubt we'll have a good opportunity.

Ran the 4x100.

Lift upper body only
He weighs 145# now, lolz

The regular season in over.
Can't complain at all. Almost sub 11. We almost PR'd at every meet in at least one event somewhere. (Only one meet he did not ).
Hes ranked about 27-40 in the state ...100/200/400. In his small school division he's #1 in the 100,200,& 400

5-1-2023 Mon.

At MesqHS Track.

MJH and BN did the 3x200 predictor workout. (3 x flying 200@4'^)
I fucked up and had them start on the straight, and finish with the curve.
It was real windy in our favor, and I didn't want to run it like a std.200.
We were also limited with the lanes we could use.....i used 4.
It definitely messed with the times, they had to slow down going into the curve!
Turns were too tight and too fast.

-----------------------------------------

IN OTHER NEWS ABOUT MY COACHING THE "TEAM".

I think I won't be back next year.
The kids here are sort of awful.
Almost every kid is late to practice, OR they often don't show up at all.

I specifically remember a Tues practice where they all wanted to go watch
a new fledgling sport the school was participating it: a girl Sand Volleyball game.
I found that to be unbelievable.

The kids show up late, and/or no show all the time. I started keeping an attendance sheet on the google sheets share document.

----------------------------

Last meet we decided to shit can the 4x400 relay, as a lot of the kids were melting down because of the fast pace of that Last Chance meet.
Four other kids (a jumper, two kids not entered in anything, and the hurdlers who had only 2 event)....got together and decided
it would be "fun" to run it. I mean, I OK'd it to not be Captain BringDown ....but fuck, I did not know it was going to go like this:
It was pretty shameful. They all sorta jogged it in.
it once they saw how slow they were going to be ....and how far in last place they were.

A.W. - had been complained about slight knee pain. He was on the bubble to whether or not to run the 4x100. But ran an additional 4x400? that he didn't need to? .... exacerbating his injury?

M.E. - for the currently practice above, called it due to shin splints? but ran a 4x400 on top of his 200
Also, he was supposed to jump for B.B.'s spot, and he called in sick. But then declined last minute, "because he wasn't going to do it anyway".

P.R. - I guess I can't complain, but he didn't try hard.

T.O. - ...the anchor, he jogged the last portion. and did a cartwheel just before the finish line with everyone watching because we were last place by 20-30 seconds ....holding the whole meet up. The meet director had to tell him to finish.

It was quite embarrassing and disrespectful IMO ....the lack of obvs effort, and the laughing and what as they were exchanging batons, etc....cartwheel?. JFC! ..... especially since this was a last chance meet. They were policing entries and denying entries if athletes had 'no chance', as to leave more slots for legitimate 'last chancers' (last chance to qualify for State/Divisionals).

----------------------------

The female hurdler had a bad 100H a few meets back, and a slow open 100. I asked her what was wrong. She said the old coach (from two years ago) was there, and he made her nervous. I asked why, and she said, "because he [the coach] said once 'I am disappointed in you' " . I could only imagine about 20 to 30 things she typically does (lack of effort, etc) that could of resulted in him saying that.

----------------------------

There's a million other things that come to mind.

There is only 2 and a half kids who really care and give good effort, show up on time, etc.
MJH, DR, and maybe BN (half).

(3) x 60m

then practice some blocks starts on the curve

==================================

5-4-2023 Thur - REST

==================================

5-5-2023 Fri - Div. Championships
He's entered in the 100,200,400 and 4x4. Don't think we'll do the 400, unless the 4x4 team starts to crater in their other prelims prior to this, then we'll hop in the 400

5-5-2023

Div.Champs

Prelims:
100m 1st 11.00 Q
200m 2nd 22.83 Q some bad wind against us
4x400 jogged it to qualify

5-6-2023
FINALS:

100m 2nd 11.23 ...lost to a GigaChad by 0.03
200m 2nd 22.63 ...not a good time for him
4x400 1st ....not much to say, opponent was 25m ahead we he got the baton, he/we managed to close that again and won by about 10m.

Top 30 times from all five divisions are eligible and all qualify for super-state-meet; he's #20 in the 100m .... they only take top 18 entrants of that top 30. We'll see what happens, but pretty sure the season in over :(

==============

5-7-2023 FULL REST

5-8-2023 He went and lifted , upper body only.
Tomorrow we train.

5-9-2023

Got the bad news he did not make the cut of 18 for SuperState. He was 19th, missed by .01 or .02 sec.

We did:
GHS, 7 pm.
(4) 30m maxV flys.
It was darkish, we never do good in the dark....times were off.
He was probably still cooked a bit from back-to-back meets....
...I really wanted to something not so intense like wickets, but it was too late by the time we got out there.

That said, there's a lot going on with school and personal stuff the next two days.
He'll probably rest two days in a row again....which is probably pretty optimal and warranted or whatever.
School season is over for us, but there's a USATF "State Champ." meet he wants to do....THEN 'it' is over.

MeqHS 6:45pm. Superwindy, almost monsoonesque storm swirling around.

(3) x 150m fly @ 4' rests.

Times were bad, probably becasue of the wind.
We talked; WE decided to end the track season here ..... not going to the USATF meet this weekend.

We posted some good times this year, and won a ton of medals.
We've been almost non-stop since November ... a few little breaks in there.
Discretion is the better part of valor something-something take our wins and go home blah blah blah
Track season over. Body needs rest and to detrain

6-12-2023 Mon

Nothing really to report lately; don't think its worth logging day by day.
He does HSFB practice 3-4x / week....they lift at these sessions also.
He does other stuff with his buddies on their own ... lifting wise and speed and agility stuff 2-3x/ week.
Doing summer school trying to recoup some failed Spanish2 classes.
Got a job at a fast food place.
He drives on his own now.
We really don't do that much together any more
:( :( :(

Squatted 185x6x4 the other day, ezpz. I know that happened.
I told him I totally did not care about his squat number at all (where I used to),
just slowly build it up over time with good form and deep-depth. 195 next week and so on.
There's quite a few kids who squat more than him (of course), even underclassmen .... but they are all high and trash-looking squats.
His deadlift is good, and his bench .... compared to his peers.

I totally do not fucking care about any kids squat numbers; it truly means nothing.
I have seen fast kids with shit squat numbers, and slow kids with great squat numbers.

7-4-2023. Mon.

Sprint workout with dad-coach.

MesqHS; 12:30pm; 107F; grass/cleats

(10) x 10yd sprints standing start; on 30 second intervals
Rest 5 min between sets
3 total sets.
Timed with freelap.

===================================

this came up in my feed, (I follow a lot of track and field and football player accounts)

The kid really shouldn't be getting into shape for anything really .... to the point he hates it THIS much.
(granted, we are probably seeing a bit of a temper tantrum too here)
(I'm sure his dad gets the same reaction pulling him off of his X-box or whatever)

But point is 99% of that kid's "training" (at this age) should be neural, sprint, power, skill work ....
.... not doing conditioning shit on an airbike (to the extent "I CaN't dO ItT !!!!" )

Just checking in.
FB practice season ....
Recently he benched 185x5x2; 175x5 in a workout.
Recently squatted: 245x5x3.
(he squats ATG, beltless, and does not grind)

On his required physical for FB they have him down at 5'11" & 155, and generally the shitty urgent care joint weighs with clothes and shoes still on.
lol. He really hasn't gained weight
