Burger Battles
I finally visited an In-N-Out burger over my recent vacation, and I gotta say, that shit is overrated. The fries are really not good. The burger was perfectly fine, tasty to be sure, but nothing special. I found the double-double to be rather skimpy. Add another patty or two and it'd be worth going back. At least it was cheap.
5 Guys is more expensive, but waaaaaay better.

Re: Burger Battles
No, In N Out is not the best burger of all time. It is good for the price.
Yes, there are other burgers that are better and cost more. Shake Shack is one example. I’ve never eaten at nor will I ever eat at Five Guys.
You shouldn’t have ordered a double double because you’re not a teenage girl. Order at least a 3x3.
Why does it matter if something is “overrated”? Is it good, or isn’t it? WGAF how good something is relative to how it is rated? /mini rant

What's your beef with 5G?
My companion and guide for said visit advised me that the double double was the biggest I could get. WTF, Dad!
Because I looked forward to it for a very long time based on the reputation. Also, how could so many be so wrong about the fries?

Yeah, I guess it is. But ten years ago when the few barrel-aged stouts available were mostly crap, KBS was stunning. Now the landscape has changed and equal/better beers are easily accessible, but it still has that reputation as a beer worth chasing. And to be fair, it is good.

You didn't phrase that in the form of a statement intended to mildly annoy manveer.GrizzlyAdam wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 11:35 am Yeah, I guess it is. Actually, I think Founders is mostly coasting on their history of being an early pioneer of microbrewing in the Midwest. True, you're almost never going to have a bad Founders beer (except Lizard of Koz, that was vile). But I do think a big part of the appeal of KBS is the hunt for the whale. I got a little excited when I saw a stack of them at my little local grocery store, even though I had no plans to buy any.
Also: dear breweries- stop bourbon barreling your beers.
Also, 5 Guys is alright. Like, I would go there if someone said "Hey, want to get burgers?" But if someone said "I really want a burger, where should I go?" I can think of a few places I'd recommend first.

I don't wanna hijack your beer thread with talk of burgers, but where would you recommend?

Re: Burger Battles
I do not see why is there is a line at the In-and-Out drive thru 15 cars long, that winds through the parking lot at 10:30am on a Tuesday.
Its not that good.
I like the Kafta Burger at Pita Jungle, with a side of tabouli salad, in lieu of the roasted garlic potatoes.

Re: Burger Battles
They tried to move in to CA and it seemed like they intentionally targeted locations next to In-N-Outs. And I like In-N-Out. Mostly because I grew up in CA. Short answer - I have an irrational dislike of Five Guys. Also, because @mgil likes them.
Nope. 3x3 or 4x4, or two double doubles.
The fries are marginally acceptable. Most people I know and have solicited opinions from don't think they're above average.
This was a fun video series:

I like it. I don't care how it's rated! gah!
I am slowly working through the remaining Hop Slam. And I have that Black Tuesday in the fridge for some yet TBD special occasion.

Re: Burger Battles
Stellas Blue Stuffed burger. I think the burger at Vivant is really good, but it ends up being like $25 or something by the time you add bacon and cheese, so I wouldn't really send someone there just for the burger.

Yeah, I've heard Stella's has a good burger. Haven't made it there yet.

I vote SmashBurger, despite the fact their logo looks like GameStop.

Re: Burger Battles
I don't get out to the west coast much, but I can't wait to get to try some In-N-Out burgers.
I make it a point to eat the foods I can't get where I'm at. I can be obsessive: While on a road trip in Southern Maine, I woke up at 3am so I could drive to Brunswick to get fresh Frosty's doughnuts at 4:30. Worth it. After spending most of my life hearing about how awesome In-N-Out is, I'll be at least pretty bummed out if the burger experience isn't amazing.

Don't expect anything to be amazing. Then, when things are mediocre, as most things are, you won't be terribly disappointed, just mildly depressed. Eat Arby's.
