LUMBER & STEEL: Adventures of a DIY Contractor
So the gods have gifted us a couple of 70+ degree days and it's supposed to rain Friday. So look for all my training to be squeezed in on Friday instead of today and tomorrow as I blitzkrieg this deck hahaha

So guess what I didn't do today? It didn't rain so fuck it, I think I might just reboot this program in a week or so...my tendonitis is killing me anyway....

LUMBER & STEEL: Adventures of a DIY Contractor
Screw it, deck blitzkrieg week has arrived... I can see the goal line from here and I just want to be done.
Plan is to get the posts cut/railings fitted for the ground level stairs this afternoon and maybe start cutting the remaining spindles for the lower deck railings. I'm gonna be cutting as many of my own as I can from remaining or salvaged lumber to avoid having to get anymore material. Various Gods willing I'll be done and ready to do the rail caps by the weekend and we can call it a day... until the spring time when I'm gonna re-do the upper deck stairs and paint the whole damn thing.

So... it's been worth it I think.
Few more things to clean up/sand, some accent stuff, but we're mostly done until spring...

Adductor soreness from Monday really limited these squats...
Edit: oh hey, I'm fucking sick again now too... cool...
Edit edit: I am not sweating the very light weight on these presses. Strength is not the goal and I'm trying not to aggravate this tendonitis. Holding a heavier barbell was aggravating it...

I pickd up something somewhere between being in Ontario and landing in SC, and it isn't Covid (So says the 5 tests 3 of which were different kinds to cover ll of the bases). I am not enjoying it so far. What the hell is going around up there right now?

I dunno everything... colds, flu, rona, you name it.Hardartery wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 3:50 pmI pickd up something somewhere between being in Ontario and landing in SC, and it isn't Covid (So says the 5 tests 3 of which were different kinds to cover ll of the bases). It's likely just a cold or something... hasn't been as bad as that time I probably had rona, but it hasn't been as annoying as that was. It's moved down into my chest the last couple days... so some non productive coughing throughout the day and lots of boogers... other than that it's not like I'm on deaths door or anything.
This seems to happen every year around this time when the temperatures go haywire. 30 degree mornings and 70 degree afternoons. Correlation is not causation but I always seem to catch something. Kids haven't been noticeably sick so I can't blame them, baby was sort of stuffed up before I was so maybe it was him... bastard.
So far it hasn't spread to anyone else, I'm just luck I guess.

You are describing my symptoms to a T, and I get this about once a year usually but haven't had it since Rona hit and it was usually in the Spring for me. Still sucks.mouse wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 5:39 amI dunno everything... colds, flu, rona, you name it.Hardartery wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 3:50 pmI pickd up something somewhere between being in Ontario and landing in SC, and it isn't Covid (So says the 5 tests 3 of which were different kinds to cover ll of the bases). Yup.
Not enough to stop me from getting blitzed on a bowl of rum and free sake though.

Late start to the week because of Halloween shenanigans. Squats felt as good as last week despite being pretty sure I broke a toe last night. If it isn't broken I'm at least pretty sure I'm gonna lose the nail. Haven't had the stomach to really examine it today, just wrapped it up last night and went to bed.
My baby ass tris seem to be adapting to 10's as these didn't feel as bad as last week. I'll probably hold the top set and creep the weight up on the back offs...

Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
With Halloween I planned to just shift everything over a day but life determined that was a lie.
Arrived home to my living room looking like a makeshift triage unit with my 8 year old in bawling tears as my wife appeared to be doing impromptu surgery on his ear. For those not in the know (i.e. everyone) our middle child asked to get his ears pierced a few weeks back (maybe a month?) so we obliged him. Since then you've had the typical nonsense that comes with new piercings and kids (they become magnets to get bumped, tweaked, etc) but yesterday was a new one for me.
Some time ago he lost the backing to one of his studs, and mom reconciled this by giving him one of the little tapered silicone replacement backings she had for her own piercings. Well somewhere within the past week, whether through fiddling or injury (we may never know as he didn't see fit to inform us of anything until yesterday afternoon) the backing somehow managed to become embedded in his ear lobe. Gross.
To my surprise this apparently happens a lot? Regardless, I literally walked into my house and walked right back out to take what turned into a 4.5 hour trip to the ER to have a doc dig it out with a pair of forceps. He handled it very well, and it was a super gross experience for both of us, and as a bonus I got to continue my unending streak of being in an ER when some rando is having an OD event and starts screaming like a lunatic in triage... always fun.
Currently working up the will to just do all of my remaining sessions this week when I get home from OT...
