Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
The one from my mother in law's cousin who used to live in the house behind ours that I inherited since he didn't want use any of his stuff anymore and wanted it out of his shed...
Want? Anything that feels less like crap, doesn't have bolt on sleeves that spin loose, and (an actual thought) maybe has a slightly different angle ('super' curl bars). I saw a brand called synergee (or something) mentioned that's on Amazon for like $90 that fits the bill... might pull the trigger...
Rackable would be cool but that ups the price...

I prefer curling preset bars so that absolutely nothing is moving, but that's obviously not feasible at home.

Sort of related I really really wish I had the space and disposable income for a decent rack of DBs... I think I would benefit from working with them but I hate the adjustables...DCR wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 3:45 pmAh yeah. These are niiiice looking. Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
Same issue, I hate any movement at all and therefore not only dislike adjustable DBs, but also dislike non-adjustable ones made from actual plates. They get loose. Give me solid cast iron.mouse wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 4:16 pmSort of related I really really wish I had the space and disposable income for a decent rack of DBs... Deadlift
475x3, 500x3, 530x5*
Paused Squat**
285x8x3
Farmers Carry
185x1, 205x1, 225x2, 205x1, 185x1
Scap Pull Ups***
3x10
*I felt really good about this until I realized I did 525 for 8 reps on an axle 3 years ago when I weighed 210... ouch...
**hip has been bugging me a bit this week and pausing felt a little shitty so I just squatted for better or worse... still made my legs tired...
***similar story, just proactively trying to deal with some shoulder shit in my left side...

BW: 255.5
Log Press
205x3, 225x3, 235x6
Close Grip Bench
225x8, 255x8x3
Incline Bench
200x10x3
Hammer Curl (MG)
75x10, 85x10, 90x10
Pin Loaded Curl
45x12x3
Had a feeling this would happen with my weight being back at work. Not that one week of no real change is a 'stall' but at least it's not a total backslide. Hopefully the needle moves again next week...
Log feels good, I'd like to take a run at 255 for reps next week and see what we get...

Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
I'm over in DCR's log mentioning how I think some of my hip shit is coming from knees shifting out in the bottom of squats. At least that's the only time I feel any discomfort. So I'm working on controlling that and then seeing if it improves. The only real time it bugs me outside of training is laying in bed, which is like the worst time.

That’s weird. Maybe you’re losing some low back tightness? Hopefully the resting pain just improves with timemouse wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2024 2:28 pmI'm over in DCR's log mentioning how I think some of my hip shit is coming from knees shifting out in the bottom of squats. Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
I'm sure at some point in my life there was a time where I felt good and was pain/discomfort free... but I certainly don't remember it.
I've just accepted years ago that something will always be shitty with me and that was way before I started lifting weights.

Squat
370x5, 415x3, 455x3*
TnG Deadlift
405x8x4**
Barbell Row
225x10x3
*22 days ago 455 felt like an absolute shit rep, loose goosey at the bottom, and way more like a max than it should have felt like. I will graciously accept this improvement.
**my glutes are with the lord above right now. I may have to rethink the loading if I'm gonna keep these in at this volume. Maybe something like a +5% top set and -10% backoffs.

Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
A side note that I'm sure will be relevant later this week, pretty sure two jumbo zweigles and some mac salad ren't on my diet but I refuse to lose them to my kids who said they wanted them a couple days ago and then only want to eat ramen for dinner apparently...
Hopefully it will all go to my biceps...

Re: IRON & STONE: Adventures of an Amateur Strongman
At the end of the day having my wife cricut me a little 'mybackhurts' Milwaukee-esque logo just wasn't worth $20 more bucks to me...
Plus I think I need to do up my rear struts on the Ford so... gotta save where I can lol

BW: 254.2
Deadlift
455x5, 515x3, 565x3
Log Press
205x5, 235x5, 255x3
Squat
290x8x3
Close Grip Bench
260x8x3
Incline Bench
200x10x3
Hammer Curl (MG)
85x12x3
Supersized Saturday was not my first choice, and surely cost me a rep or two on the log, but I we were supposed to get rained out today so I prioritized yard work and deck construction...
The weather is beautiful...
So I guess I'm gonna do more yard and deck stuff now...
I'm tired.
