I'm hoping that 208 isn't too hot. I don't want to have to use the 198 setting. I know they say 205 tops, but I doubt it's going to make much of a difference. I've been using 200 out of another boiler and it gets cold too fast. I'm going to give the 208 out of the Zojirushi a try tomorrow.

Someday I'll get the boys to sing their songs at the same time. Something magical will happen. I'm sure.

I roasted a bit too much just before it arrived, so it will probably be the tail end of next week before I get a chance to use it. Build wise it seems cool, I really like the chaff catcher design.

Are you guys roasting inside? If so, does your entire house smell like a coffee shop?

I was looking at the smaller version of the SR800, the SR540. It says it draws 1750 watts. I'd have to have that on a 20 amp circuit. I don't have many. . . . The SR800 says that it draws 1600. I'm not sure why it's less. Either way, that's flirting with tripping the 15 amp breaker.

I'm ghetto. I use a heat gun and a bowl with my garage door cracked. The roast isn't very even...but I've actually come to like that...more interesting than mono-roast.

I roast inside next to a window with a fan pointing out. I used a popcorn popper until I got the SR.

Y'all got me curious. I don't know how good it will taste next week but I roasted about 6oz. I followed the instructions for the first roast. Had to monitor it the whole time, and I got paranoid and cooled the beans off a little soon. They are barely city roast and I usually aim for full city, or full city+. They are REALLY even, and there was barely any smoke and all the chaff was caught by the filter. So overall I'm super happy, I can probably get by with one 6-8oz roast per week and I look forward to experimenting with the heat and fan.

They both make about as good a cup of coffee as you'll get. It's easier to mess up with the V60 (maybe my technique sucked), whereas the Kalita is pretty much dead-simple and mindless.

V60 > Kalita imo. In particular, I found that the Kalita struggled with larger volumes.

Also a member of formerly popcorn popper now new SR800 gang, but having a hard time getting the SR800 dialed in. If I use enough fan to keep the beans moving it seems to take forever to get to first crack. Not sure whether I'm trying to do too big a batch or whether it's because I'm trying to roast outside in ~40-50 Fahrenheit weather. But I guess smoke is minimal enough that I should be able to try it indoors?

Why is it easier to mess up with the V60? They're both cones with filters.

The Kalita Wave is actually a flat bottom. After your fussy bloom, you just fill the filter to the brim, add a little water until you hit your target grams/ounces and wait.

I'd occasionally get shitty cups of coffee with the V60. The rate at which it filters seems pretty technique dependent
