Re: Stranger Than Fiction
Despite its appearance, this bizarre creature is actually not a spider. It is, however, a member of the arachnids which contains the true spiders. Known as the bunny harvestman (species name Metagryne bicolumnata) this minute critter is barely the size of a human thumbnail.
However, what it lacks in size it makes up for in flashiness, sporting vibrant green and an unusual headpiece that looks a bit like dog or a bunny rabbit, complete with ears, eyes, and a nose.
The M. bicolumnata comes from the Cosmetidae family, in the order of Opiliones. These are also known as harvestmen or, more commonly, daddy longlegs. Harvestmen have been around for over 400 million years and emerged on Earth even before the dinosaurs.

Farmer's walks could have helped prepare him but upon checking, I find that expert opinion says that they are totally useless.Skander wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 4:59 pm They should have hired a strongman competitor...

Anyway, that picture in the news article is some odd stock picture. Those are a mixture of scottish £10 and £20 notes which are an unlikely thing for a russian criminal based in London to trade in. The story said £5m Euro. The largest euro note is a 500, so you'd need 10,000 of them. Average banknote weight, 1.1g. So about 10kg total. If you used 100s, 100kg total. Guess this guy was dealing in small change.

Didn't they get rid of the 500 specifically because it made money laundering too easy?chrisd wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 1:56 pmHmm.... Struggling at 215lbs, weighs 235lbs. Re: Stranger Than Fiction
Why does Rippetoe say that "overtrained" grip is the hardest thing to recover from?
To me it seems both easy to fatigue and easy to recover.

Re: Stranger Than Fiction
Rip seems to think if you do farmer's walks you should max them out every time, like the 3 sets of chinups to failure in SS NLP. This is in contrast to everything else in SS, where you start moderate (not easy) and build up.
Well, if you max out an exercise 1-3 times a week you might overdo it, yes.

Re: Stranger Than Fiction
IDK.
Seems weird. It he saying by overtraining your grip-muscles lead to a whole body system overtraining? or just the gripping-part of the body.
Even if THIS^ were a thing at all ... seems like straps would over come all that in a couple of different ways.
(avoiding the initial "over-training" stress in the first place)
(dealing with the after effect of having over-trained grip and still being able to pull)

Re: Stranger Than Fiction
Rip’s statements on what constitutes an overload event and necessary recovery time are way out there. I mean, he’s saying that his SRA is such that he squats something like twice a month.
It’s backwards thinking.
I’d also like to introduce Rip to some pipe fitters that somehow work with their hands every day and have a vise-like grip. I guess they’ve never recovered.
ETA:
I think the issue here is that a lot of these dudes are stronger than their grip can handle. The SS LBBS has so much concurrence with DL that these guys are able to out-pull their grip rather quickly. So they are constantly getting nuisance injuries to the musculature and tendons as opposed to building strength in the grip independently to cover for the rest of their strength increases. Keyboard fondling doesn’t do much for grip strength.

Re: Stranger Than Fiction
I dunno. It makes sense to me. He must have built up an iron grip as a youth. As he aged, the decreased sensitivity and increased refractory period makes it more difficult to recover from his sessions.
