Who is on a cut?

What's a carb? A car part? What's a macro? A type of camera lens?

Oh yeah. It me. Trying to get abs again this summer. Didn't work last year. But starting from a lower BW and hopefully lower BF% starting point.

Back at it. Not weighing anything this time or meal planning really. Just decided to replace all processed carbs (e.g. rice, bread, etc.) with fruits and veggies. Seems to be working so far. I'm down about 8lbs (from 163lbs to 155lbs) in two weeks. I know it's all water weight, but I'm going to give it a solid run and see where it takes me. I've made peace with never seeing a 6 pack...I guess.

Picked a super conservative weekly loss target, and things progressed at the appropriate pace for the first two weeks then I went right back up to where I started over the next two, so I got a calorie cut.

Wore my pioneer cut two holes tighter than I have ever worn it today, so I guess the diet is working.

Going the slow and steady route this time and am planning to get down below 200lbs. I am currently at 224lbs (down 14lbs) and will lose the rest over the next 10-12 weeks. Diet wise, I am not calorie counting just eating 3 meals in an 8 hour window and trying to get at least 150g of protein. Also, keeping steps in the 10-12K range and have added 2-3 cardio sessions per week.

Over a period of a little less than a year I have gone from ~200lb to 174lb. I starting eating only two meals/day, breakfast and dinner, approximately 12hr apart. My only goal is to get at least 150g protein; my carbs come out to 140g -190g/day.

Did you have the experience that the more weight you loss, the more you realize you had to keep losing to get lean?

I've done a few big cuts and I'm always amazed at how optimistic my initial projections are. I think your average SS graduate could probably get down to about 160 pounds at 15% BF. Yet they think they've "filled out" at 200 or whatever.

Yes, when I started I thought I'd be real lean at 185 but once I came close to that I realized that I had to cut further.

Yup. My post SS year was 210-180. When I started I thought I'd be able to cut to 175-180, bulk to 190 and look like Jordan or Austin. Instead, I was still 20% bf at 180 so decided I should gain first to 195 then cut again. This time I'd cut to 170 and bulk to 180 and still look reasonably jacked and lean. But I'm still 18% bf at 170. So now I'm super slowly gaining until 185 then cutting to 165 when I'll finally achieve final form. Trust me. This time I'll be ripped af at 165.

It's more than a little depressing that, at 5' 11", I'd need to be 155 to get under 15% bf. I don't think I have the willpower to make that happen. Comparing my body to post growth spurt HS (168 lbs) I'd guess I gained like 10 lbs of LBM after 4 years of lifting and bulking/cutting. Fortunately I've found other reasons to lift than looking good without my shirt or deadlifting 500 lbs -- cause otherwise I'd definitely quit this sh**.

I should really start loosing some more body weight again. I'd like to get to under 90 kg at least, hopefully a bit lower.
I've been at about 2200 calories a day now for about a week, doesn't seem too bad.
Biggest problem for me seems to be getting enough protein without taking too much whey.

Down to about 91kg now, so it's going well. I'm about 4kg or 9lbs lighter so far.

Thanks. I think I should stop at 90kg and stay there for a while.

An update on this.

Continuing on the same food intake as above (1900≤kcals≤2000) I got as low as 171lb three weeks ago and the wham, I went back up to 172lb. All of the sudden my lifts seemed to crater and I started to feel cold. I have also started to get weird food ideas; when I was in the store yesterday I decided I needed another jar of peanut butter, even though I have plenty at home. That is a sign that any cut has to come to (an at least temporary) end. Starting today I have decided to add ~200kcal/day back in and see if I can prevent my metabolism from cratering.

Got a calorie cut again. I suspect being out of town for 3 days and guesstimating may have lead to lack of weight loss, probably should have erred more on the low side than I did.

I weighed in at 213 this morning and survived both the Independence day and trip to my parents with only minor cheating, while still losing weight. The hardest thing for me is 100% how to handle "special occasions" (that seem to happen 40+ times per year) and I've decided to go back to being a keto nutjob and bringing my own food as a backstop is the way to go. It's the weekends, always.

One thing I'm thinking is that when I want a cheat meal doing Sunday night. Friday/Saturday too high of risk for turning into cheat weekend.

Calories down to 2955 a day. Giving up on my cut Sep 1, going to reverse diet for Sep then bulk starting in Oct, perhaps.

Weight has been under 200lbs for most weigh-ins the last 2 weeks. Not sure when the last time I was sub-200, possibly for my wedding? 10 years ago?
