@hsilman, do you have links to any of those maps you liked? The one's I've seen seem to have rarer ones, at least to what's available to me in NH.

This is typical of what I've found. I can't speak to rarity because I have a pretty wide selection in NYC.
Your link is fuxxxored.

Ahh, yeah. I've seen that one before.

I'd take it with a sip of seawater though. The HP12 is the same on the peat scale as Cragganmore 12 (which I have a glass of right now) and only barely above Dalmore 12 and Bruichladdich 10. It's definitely significantly peatier than those three even though it's still very mild compared to most Islays.

This is what I have on the go just now, Just opened the Glenlivet Captains Reserve, after finishing a bottle of Jura a fortnight or so ago. The Ballantines Finest is a cooking whisky (pretty much) The white box is a labelled "very old" and is a limited bottle I think, as is the little bottle at the front which is a 17 year old limited bottling as well. The Something Special is a blend, as yet unopened.
When I'm out on the town I like a Macallan 10 year old, but my favourite whisky by far I've ever had was a bottle called Scapa, the Orcadian. I've had 2 bottles and swallowed them both quick as it was slightly more morish than heroin. Beautiful. Named for Scapa flow in Orkney up north, where it is made I believe.

Okay, yea, I like this chart. Plenty on there available in NH.

Turns out I've done better than I though covering that one spatially. Great for "I like this one, find me something near it with more of this or that character". Wayyy more interesting than bourbon.

Really liked the bunnahabhain 12. Like, REALLY like it. Picked up a Lagavulin 16, and it is really good. Super peaty nose, then sherry sweet initial taste, and a nice peaty finish. I can see why it's well regarded.

Been a few months.

Wife and I have settled on the Bunnahabhain 12 as our current favorite, we're on the 3rd or 4th bottle now. Just picked up a Talisker's Distillery Edition and I think it is also well balanced. Considering visiting Talisker's when we got to Scotland this summer.

A non-peaty sweeter tasting with nice honey, ripe apple flavors, sherry (cask) finish: Balvenie Doublewood 12 years

looking to buy a fine bottle of scotch as celebration for graduating, job, and house. I was looking to spend about $200, someone told me blue label, but I feel like I should buy a single malt.

I find Johnny Walker gross, but opinions vary. Do you know what you like, at all?

Oh man, I wouldn't do that.

Get a Bunnahabhain 18 (with probably enough left over for a Lagavulin 16).

I really like Islays.

If you can get it, I'm in love with Port Charlotte MRC:01

I've had and enjoyed a few bottles of regular Glenn Livet.

I have also Lagavulin 16 and have enjoyed that.

By far the best bottle I have had is GlennDronach Tawney Port Finish 15 year.

Ive had black label and Chivas but again I think I want to stick to the single malts.

@Mattjd

You could give the Oban 18 a shot. It's in your price range and a nice mix of Highland scotch with some peat influence.

Hanley's recommendation of Bunnahabhain 18 is also a good idea.
