Kabuki's bar was up for sale last night, sold out fairly quickly. Looks pretty sweet and is substantially cheaper than the Eleiko.

Has anyone used an original trap bar? I forget the name of the guy who was making them. Anyhow, the YMCA had one, and it was pretty solid. It only had low handles and the knurl was the most aggressive I've encountered to date, and I own an OPB and have used TPBs.

I've read some comments on this thread that later versions are an improvement on the original design. If we're only talking low handles, I can't see why. I don't see any advantage or disadvantage to the hex configuration.

That's cool. The diamond pattern looks like it would easier to hang on the wall. I guess I could rig up two hooks or something for the hex to get it off the floor. . . .

a closed hexagon vs the diamond type? yeah I don't see any difference.

But the newer hex design with the open end, yeah, that's kinda neato.
You can do lunges and some other shit with it.
The tip-over-ez-load feature: I guess for kids, weak girls, older folks, globo-gyms, etc ... this might be a selling point.

You could make a diamond shaped bar this way, but most of the newer designs the plate-sleeves are set up wider...
...to where its rackable in a standard rack (rack pulls, NG presses, etc)...
and the plates will be wide enough to actually land in the rubber on a normal deadlift platform.

Yes. this is a big drawback for using them on a platform. Also, if you are using the low handles on a dual handle bar, the high handles are facing down when you unload. They ding up the platform when you take off the last plate. (I try to put the deadwedge under the handle to catch it, but it doesn't always work.)

At my globo gym the trap bars are the cheap standard narrow type.
People use iron plates and the plates hit right at the edge of the wood/rubber line.
It chips the wood.

People use bumpers; it still damages the wood a bit, and starts to cut up the bumpers too.

If they were smart, you could put a collar(or two) on the empty bar before loading and make a spacer of sorts to spread the plates out to the rubber.
....it'd be still close. You'd have to set up perfectly center and lift like a robot.
...And use the iron plates (to load more). My gym its rare to 3 plates on the trap bar.

Shipping is ridiculous; I originally did not think it would be that much. I have almost bought the Kabuki bar each time it comes available but the shipping costs makes me go "this is way too expensive" then I lose out the window. The Eleiko Trap Bar to Ohio is $821.00 (including $21.00 hipping) so the price is virtually identical for me between the two bars. I prefer the Kabuki bar based on the specs but I imagine the Eleiko would have better resale value.

I love the design. If I ever pull 700 I’ll buy it or the Eleiko in celebration.

But I feel ridiculous spending that much cash on a 450 pull. Edge fitness dropped all their prices. Rickshaw is $282 shipped. Need about a week to convince myself I want it before Black Friday
