I wonder how well balanced it is. Seems like it would be heavier on the closed side. I guess it might not matter once it's loaded up.

Is this the trap bar club, or you ordered the same one, too?

Gotcha.. yeah, gonna try to use low handles as a squat replacement. Belt squat is too much of a PITA to rig up each time.

This one looks even better, except the metal feet of the jack look like they'd destroy a platform:

The price is higher than I would have expected, but Titan seems to be edging higher overall. I don't think it will replace my Hulkfit open trap bar.
I hate when my past self disagrees with my future self. Dumping the Hulkfit bar and picked up the Titan after seeing a very strong lifter that I know give it a good review. He had an instagram video up with just under 900 on it, so I think it's safe to say that I won't be taxing it too hard with my paltry lifts.

Unboxed it today and have to say I'm impressed that it's a Titan product.

Nice. I'm jealous.

The Garage Gym review guy recently posted that he thinks the SSB is a great product. They seem to be getting some things right.

Interestingly, the guy who gave the thumbs up on the trap bar gave a thumbs down on the v2 SSB. Something about a buddy of his bending/breaking it at 5-600. I didn't get more details than that, though.

I doubt Coop put 500 to 600 pounds on the bar. And really, most people probably won't do so regularly (if at all) but still, it should not bend at that weight if it wants to be a viable alternative to EliteFts. Everything else I have read on reddit and a few people on here have been very positive about the Titan SSB v2.

The trap bar does look real nice btw. Give us a follow up after using it for a few sessions.

***it should have knurling on the low bar or am I crazy***

It was surprising to hear negative feedback from a strong guy who had positive things to say about other Titan gear, but for all I know it was a Q/C issue or the guy dumped it on the safeties or something. It sounded like it was in a commercial gym setting, too, so who knows what else the bar went through. Next time I talk to him I'll ask if his buddy took any pictures or had more details.

Titan cloned the Rogue TB-2, which does not appear to have knurling on the lower handles. I do find knurling to be much less important on neutral grip pulls. I'll likely just use the high handles anyway. It's easy enough to stand on a block if I want more of a deficit. I threw 3 plates on and did a few reps last night and it felt pretty good, but life's keeping my lifting to 2 days a week right now. I'll use it for real next week.

Edit: I really can't tell if the TB-2 has knurled lower handles. The description says "Both sets of knurled, parallel handles", so maybe Titan just looked at the pictures like I did.

Has anyone used an original trap bar? I forget the name of the guy who was making them. Anyhow, the YMCA had one, and it was pretty solid. It only had low handles and the knurl was the most aggressive I've encountered to date, and I own an OPB and have used TPBs.

Just an aside.

Gerard? Never found one in person.

That's it!

The modern designs are an overall improvement. I think the Y had one because at one time they had a competent S&C person. By the time I showed up there circa 2009, no one really knew what to do with it and often just sat in bar storage.

I bought one from MiddleCoast Publishing in the late 90's, and later outfitted it with PDA Talons, which were sleeves that made it rackable. The Talons were nice, but made it pretty unwieldy, and because of its trapezoid shape, you couldn't easily rest it against a wall. The total weight was around 77 lbs.

I'm guessing the one you saw was similar to mine: some kind of shiny black paint, entirely solid steel, with 1" handles. The knurling was average, but also uncomfortable to hold with a lot of weight on the bar because of the smaller diameter handles.

I eventually sold it and replaced it with a rackable shrug bar from Black Widow. A little smaller, lighter, easier to handle, and the thicker diameter handles made it less uncomfortable to hold. A little harder due to nearly non-existent knurling, but I like it better than the original.
