I meant hook grip. I’m an idiot.
I mean hook grip does pinch the fuck out of one’s thumbs.

I haven’t pulled from the floor in over a year, and think you may have inspired me to bring it back, with the caveat that it would be an accessory only, done near / at the end of a session DOH no straps / chalk / hook. Maybe at a deficit like I used to. I love the way the movement feels; I just don’t want to get involved in any of the things required to “train the deadlift” and doing so wouldn’t suit my current purposes. I just want to have fun with it because I want to.

Do it!
I think that sounds like a great idea.
Couple sets of light deadlifts with a double overhand group would be great! Grip work, whole body gets some additional stress.

Run
: 95 minutes

First time taking Hokas outside. They were great.

I think this is the biggest run ive done so far this year. It was about 7.5 miles, which breaks down to a 13 min/mile pace. (I take lots of walking breaks.) Felt great when I finished. But I’ve been exhausted and useless since finishing. Feeling kind if dehydrated no matter how much I drink.

I think the problem is that instead of trying to rehydrate now, I should have thought more about staying hydrating while running. Next time will bring a water or buy a Gatorade mid-run.

Don’t forget salt/electrolytes if you’re feeling dehydrated

Great job!

Felt rested tonight. Great session.

I had a moment recently, flashback to the 00’s: I was in school, Bush was bailing out banks, he had our country involved in idiotic wars. Democrats, even if half-heartedly, spoke out against all that.
The more things change. . .

Speaking of the 00’s, not sure what they’re up to now, but for a minute Everclear was a great band.

Run
: 78 minutes

When I started treadmill running a month or so ago my speed was 5.0mph (12 min/mile). Now it’s the tiniest bit faster, 5.2mph (~11:30/mile).

Progress is progress. No matter how marginal.

T-Bar Rows: 10,080
EZ Curls: 3,600

Got main lifts in. Did not have time for Scap chins and reverse hyper. If I can grab a few minutes before I pass out I’ll return to them.

Second set of overhand, no strap, no hook-grip deadlifts I thought it was my last set. Then I decided to put on a fuck ton more chalk. Sets got much easier. Managed all 5 x 5.

Have to think I’m closing in on deadlifting 405 x 5 double overhand.

Not a bettor, and I would put good money on the notion that on a particularly good day, you have it right now. You’re gonna own it in good time.

Thank you! However I have a weird trait where, depending on how you look at it, I’m either awesome at volume or terrible at intensity. Those 1RM calculators always overestimate me. I think maybe it will be several sets of 5 at 380 before I get 405? We will see!

2023 Mar 25 Saturday

Run:
11.5 miles, ~2h 20m

******************************

Ran a local charity race. USMC 17.75k. (Marines were founded in 1775. Before America!!!) Wasn’t sure about running 11+miles, furthest I’ve run so far in training is an exhausting 7 miles. Said “fuck it.” Which is basically my life philosophy, one that has yielded severely mixed results these past few decades. Anyway, ran it.

It was a trail race. Only 5% paved. Lot of elevation. And there was a downpour. Huge mud hills that my steps were sinking into. Feet were soaked. I don’t own any weatherized, running type clothing. I had on cotton sweat pants and sweatshirt that both got soaked and felt like they weighed a ton. Last hour of the race my pants were so heavy I had to pull them up every few minutes to keep them from falling off.

I’d brought some sport ear buds. Didn’t listen to music while running the first 10 miles, but planned on listening to Tool or Lupe Fiasco the last mile of the race to get hyped up and finish strong. Unfortunately, my headphones had gotten so wet in the pocket of my sweatshirt they wouldn’t work. (Hope they’re not still broken after drying out.)

Ultimately, I rank the race 6 out of 5 stars. Would recommend. Will do again.

I’ll need to get my pace down, but I’m much more confident about running a 1/2 marathon in a few months.

That is some burly fucking shit, @hector. I imagine that you had that good exhaustion last night, where you damn sure earned a good meal, a hard drink, and sleep.

Kick push kick push coast! Great job, man.

Hell yeah. I like shorts for rain for that very reason. Wool socks and a poncho, provided the trail won’t tear it to pieces. Do I look like an idiot in shorts, and a t shirt AND a wool hat and rubberized gloves? Yes. Way more comfortable though.

In a downpour, everything will be soaked, but cotton is really good at holding water. The outdoorsy say “cotton kills!”

Shoulder is a little wonky right now, so I kept bench lighter and higher rep than normal.
