Is your profile outdated or are you about to knock off a bench PR?

I lowered my PRs for SBD when I did the meet.
My all time gym best was 290 in the fall of 2020 at a weight of around 240-245
I’m feeling cautiously optimistic of touching those weights this year. We will see.

206.9/207.3

PED#43
125x2
135x4

C25k 2:1
1.5 miles in 19:30
Had to slow the pace, so a fail.

Swings, OT 2:0
24kg x30,x20x4
30 takes a little over a minute, so I’ll keep with 20 for now. Gonna shave 10 seconds of each interval every time I do the workout, which will be on run days until deload week

Apparently my daily count has been behind 4/9, when I didn’t count the work I did at my brothers. Future me take note.
Monday I’ll test a top single, then I’ll deload and probably test again.

Yesterday
PED#45

At the Y early
Press, from the rack
125x1
135x1x2 can’t believe I hit this for 4 off the floor yesterday
125x1
105x6,6,6,5f,1 underwhelming.
I think I rush through these too quickly when at the Y. This was my last Wednesday at the Y, so whatever.

Dipped out for 10 minutes to help transition the kids to ballet and attend a pre show meeting.
When I came back everything I use at the gym was occupied, so I went home to cook dinner instead.

After kidbed (which my wife graciously attended to)
Deadlift warmup
Pulled the plug after 365. Drank beers and ate a whole bag of pita chips in the dark. I doubt I’ll make this deadlift day up.

Sigh

The perfect beer for drinking in the dark by yourself while on a couch covered in kids’ detritus, having completely given up on everything?
16 ounce cans of Coors light. That way when you say you only had 3, you can secretly lie to yourself that you didn’t just drink 4 beers in your messy living room on a week night.

Also what cool music was I listening to? A Screen Drafts podcast about Lucio Fulci movies. Not a Fulci movie itself, but a podcast ranking them.

In honor of me stepping on the scale and hitting 209.9, I have enacted Double Secret Diet Protocol - starting today.
I did this last year to stave off the summer weight gain.

This round’s DSDP rules are:
Calories under 2400
No drive through or fast food
No more than one beer or one whiskey per day
Drink 4 liters of non coffee or seltzer a day

Protocol stops in 30 days or one weigh-in under 197.
Also wife can pull the plug if I reach bad dad/husband status due to grumpiness/shortness of temper.

Penalties for breaking rules will be non food, exercise related, but severe. Maybe loss of screen privileges?

Probably gonna buy some chaos and pain stims to do this properly - looking for suggestions on that front.

Stuck in testing limbo, so I have time to plan the next training block with this in mind.

Protocol starts tomorrow.

Diet day 235
Double Secret Diet Probation day 2 of 20

DSDP is a 20 day challenge more seriouser cut to get my trend weight under 200 by getting my calories closer to 2000-2200. I probably will have trouble on 5 of those days due to travel. If I can hit that goal - maintenance until September. If not, then we go to double secret probation single overtime diet (DSPSO) and we go to 20 more days leading up until Father’s Day. Either way June 19th this cut ends.

John Vernon appreciation post

Post by augeleven » Thu May 04, 2023 7:48 am

In order to psyche myself up about the DSDP mentioned above, I’m gonna drop some sweet John Vernon clips. He’s actually a great actor, but the three roles I immediately think of for him are some camp nonsense.

(YouTube has no good clips of Vernon in Ernest goes to Camp?!?!)

That was grim but... I understand. Honestly that probably was the perfect call, because I know from experience that if one does this with, say, two imperial stouts, one's next morning is a horror show.

I've got 2-4 on lock and yet I'm fat, which only further confirms what I already know - that my caloric intake far exceeds what I think it is (and what the app that I use tells me it is). Of course there's also the near total lack of cardio and never ending stress (except - bringing this full circle - when having a night like you had last night).

Was talking with a friend at dinner tonight about various physical issues with our advancing age. One of the random things that came up was how kneeling on the floor has become tremendously shitty. I actively avoid it - when my dog knocks his toys under the couch or the like, I put my hands down and then put my feet back into basically a push up to let myself down into a lying position.

Then I read this.

LOL
The kneeling press doesn’t bother my knees, unless they’re already inflamed. The squats yesterday triggered a bursitis, and has been bothering me all day.
My number one reason for lifting is always not to feel old.

not yet i'm deloading, then I'll test, then I'll write up a thing. I don't think it was an unmitigated success, but I'm not sure what I was expecting.
