I caught the tail end of the squats. Too bad Wolf missed his last attempt.

I didn't even know this was a thing until now.
I know/think the USSF prolly "advertises" on IG, FB, etc.or course....but I don't remember seeing a single peep on the SS boards about this meet

I'm only watching now when the Arnold's Qualifier is between events...
This doesn't look or feel like a "national" meet.
And for the love of all that is holy Rip, give up the mic... the whole meet could be an hour shorter if he could remember to call the next lifter to the platform even occasionally...

If they've set rules they should stick to 'em but it does have to be difficult judging the Press in a newly-fledged organisation.

The damn bar absolutely dips down when he engages the standing bench press... hell his elbows even dip back down... not THAT hard to see...
Hambrick's wife dropped it a clear two inches half way up on her third and somehow still managed to pull a white (granted she got two reds, but it should have been three).
There were also several presses getting whites that never got all the way to lockout... even my wife called one for soft elbows and they passed it with three whites...
I get it... stuff gets missed and all but this is your nationals...

Re: ussf jan 2019
So the issue regarding the press judging is that the spiritual leader of the USSF is anti-bench press for all of the judging reasons and contortions carried out in competition, but is okay with whatever dynamic system is going on in some of these press attempts.
From what I saw of the squat judging, everything was fair. I didn’t see the DL portion at all because I was apathetic. I actually only saw a few presses of note because I wanted to see what the limits were. Based on a few clips and words here and about, it seems like they are passing bad lifts.
Yes, getting 151kg overhead is ridiculously impressive. But the contest per their rules wouldn’t have given credit to that lift.

The official scoresheet has all the press attempt columns titled "Bench"...
For some reason that amuses me...

Yeah, the press judging wasn't very uniform. In the earlier flights they were red lighting the bar dipping back down. They should honestly go to strongman style rules for this. It would allow for more weight to be lifted, which would close the gap.making it closer to the bench.

Re: ussf jan 2019
I don't remember the reason they don't like the push press. It's judged easy enough. You can't lay back very far with those weights and all you need to check is knee re-bend after the extension. Would make it much more pleasing for the eye.Les wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 3:05 pm Yeah, the press judging wasn't very uniform. In the earlier flights they were red lighting the bar dipping back down. Another thing that's funny: The overhead press was booted because of judging politics. Now they do the same. Morons.

Re: ussf jan 2019
Less virtuous...
I don't think the rules they have now are that hard to enforce so long as they have decent judges to enforce them. I don't buy the "snap judgment" in the moment decision excuse either. Maybe I'm just a dick, but reds in the press are pretty apparent to me when they happen, and I don't have years of coaching/training behind me. Feet move? Red. Knees bending? Red. Bar dips down after the start? Red. Soft lockout? Red.
It's funny that as a strongman competitor primarily I'd disagree and say that they (USSF) should go the opposite way and make it STRICT.
It eliminates all the goofiness and questions about how to judge the press, but I'd be shocked...

Re: ussf jan 2019
I agree that the judging should be pretty easy, since some of those things we are talking about are pretty easy to see. I was thinking more about having larger press numbers to balance things out. With strongman rules, we could see 400+ presses at these events.
