I haven't had a proper PR in ages, and I've never tried a squat 20RM. For some reason I got the itch to try 315.

Video is long because it shows me dumping the bar after it slid down my back on the last rep, as well as post 20RM histrionics.

Very nice! That's a very respectable weight.

Excellent job! Looks like 20 rep maxes are getting popular!

Thought I'd chip in here. It isn't as impressive as it feels, but it feels great.

Great work man! Im also bouncing around the idea of specifically pushing for 20RM on a few lifts maybe next year. 4 plates for a 20RM on squats would be pretty sweet....

Saw your further comments in your log. Awesome stuff to still be unlocking new levels after all of your experience.

405x20 would be insane. You gotta record and post it here if you go for it.

I don’t know how people do 20-rep programs; I have little interest in doing that again any time soon.

Thanks. It is a weird thing. I am pretty sure that the heavy Good Mornings are the main thing responsible, I think that I am achieving glute activation that I have never fully had before. The RDLs that I was doing before just didn't hit the way the GMs are hitting even though I went much heavier with them and for a lot more reps. I think the band work is paying off as well, but really only now that I am getting better hip and glute activation. And being totally honest, the interwebs have been beneficial as well. Watching other lifters that are stronger than I am, combined with actually being able to shoot training videos so that I can analyze what's going on have changed my form and that is helping to unlock some magic.
. I fooled myself into thinking my hips and glutes were the strong point because I have always been good at Stones, and Stone Circle (Conan's Wheel now) and Husafeldt. I just was, no credit for good training or anything here. I was kidding myself. I was relying entirely too much on a bulletproof lower back and shooting myself in the foot by doing it.

Haha yeah very insane! Well I think its still a while off for me since im slowly rebuilding after injury. However, Ive hit 185kg x10 before and Ive hit 140kg x20. I think its a far off goal, but certainly not impossible.
I actually quite enjoy the high rep stuff, its a bit of a mental battle.

Last PR for a bit. High bar Squat 225 lbs x 20 rep max with navy crocs in relaxed mode. My wife bought them for me as my indoor crocs. After a month of squat training with crocs, they feel as stable as my Nike Romaleos.

Great milestone and method lol.

You’ve got a lot more in you, in that those were barely breathing squats, if at all. You pretty much knocked them out straight through. Often as I near the end of these sets, I’m taking 10-15 seconds to breathe between reps.

Can’t believe I missed this. That’s amazing, nearly 700 lbs from the hardest part of the deadlift. Did you try for 700 after?

I did not. I left it here as it was somewhere around a 40 lb PR for me, at least a since I quit competing PR. I was pretty stoked about it, this way I go into the next session pumped up.

Ah I see, yes leaving something in the gas tank works well! You gonna try the same weight off the floor or is it off the blocks for now?

Yeah, it looks fairly straightforward but every squat past rep 13 felt heavy and exhausting. Just counting in my head, since my spotter doesn’t know how to count yet lol.

You should try to do a 20 rep set to keep the momentum going on these posts

It's off the blocks until I can find somewhere that is selling real rubber mats. I don't want to break any tiles. Once I can buy some better protection I will probably try from the floor. Main objective is actually upping my pull from 16" though, so I am investigating fabrication of an axle locally and maybe some more blocks to get me to the right height. Central America can be difficult in that regard, importing stuff gets prohibitive real fast and I have every expectation that one day I lose all of this stuff without reimbursement or redress so I am hesitant to spend big for stuff here. The pricier stuff is in the US where it is safe.

Haha, pass for now. I love 20 rep squats but I’ve spent the past two months recovering from fucking my back. Finally got back over 300 today and still working on / learning to brace properly. Squatting to exhaustion isn’t a great idea at the moment, but I’ll be watching this space and will jump in when I can.

It’s not 20 reps but been working towards 200kg for 12 on Hatfields for a while now so feels good to finally hit it. I only need to use half a Russian weightlifting wrap to stop knee aids now so might try the new generation of super stiff knee sleeves to see if they offer similar support.
