well, split jerks too.
your feet might move outward quite a bit on the other bilaterial olympic movements.
(from a narrow pull stance, out to a wider squat stance).
The nano second differences would only be seen at the most maximal lifts.

....but really, no. I can't think of any other advantage for a light shoe.
Might as well make them durable as fuck.
But the market for most of these shoe ARE oly "people".

well a lighter shoe is easier to walk around the gym in, and carry to and from training. wearing Rom 2 sort of felt like cruising around the gym in ski boots

Mild derail but I have a pair of 2004 Adistars that I've owned for 14 years now that need some fixing. I haven't used in several years since replacing having them with Romaleo 2s. I'd like to get the Adistars repaired but there isn't a cobbler around here that knows what to do with them (heel has cracked, sole has begun to unglue around the toes and heel, metatarsal strap is ripped).

Does anyone known of a cobbler that specializes in repairing weightlifting shoes?

I think someone mentioned (might have been Zack Telander?) that Toshiki has funky hip anthropometry or something. Not sure if this is the case or not, just one thing I've heard about it.

I’ve done a good bit of lifting in Nanos. The newer versions are pretty decent.

I regularly squat, snatch, clean, and front squat in my Metcons. Mostly to maintain flexibility as I age. They're plenty stable, especially at the light weights I use.

Odd that you can't find a cobbler that will work on the shoes. I don't see anything special about weightlifting shoes, other than they really aren't made to be rebuilt.

For the soles, you could glue them up with shoe goo. My duty boots have been holding together for 4 years after using Shoe goo on the soles. Any seamstress should be able to sew on a new strap, and you might be SOL on the heel cup, if that is what cracked. I had a pair of boots I wanted a cracked heel cup repaired on, and was told it required a complete tear down of the boot. I cut a little hole in the fabric liner and took the cup out.

Haven't seen anyone discuss the VS Athletics Weightlifting II shoes. The older model used to be popular budget option people would get, these look more like rebranded Do-Win, so they're probably a decent shoe. Best thing they're only $90.

If you get a pair of shoes you like... there's nothing magic about them.

I suspect that if the IWF Outlawed everything but Nike Metcons...after a few months the net result would be Fuck All.

hush McCarthy, you're ruining my dream that these next pair are going to give me at least a 5% boost

Nah. It'd be pretty noticeable I think. I actually upgraded from shitty legacy prs to legacy lifters and switched back and forth in my work sets to see if it was worth the money. It's pretty noticeable. The legacy PRs feel like ice skates in comparison. The sole isn't nearly as grippy. The extra weight and heel makes me feel noticeably more grounded. Literally I can slip around in the legacy prs (if I try) but I have to physically pick my foot up and move it to get into position with the legacy lifters.

I also got noticeably stronger on my squat adjusting my grip and letting the bar sit slightly further down my back. And if I widen my stance I get noticeably weaker.

I don't think there's an optimal heel to toe drop for everyone for the same reason there isn't an optimal grip or stance width but I wager the differences are almost as noticeable.

I have no idea what you're doing if you don't notice any difference in putting on good lifting shoes vs wearing rubber socks.

Quite possibly you just have no feeling below the knee?

Yes, the new VS Athletics shoes are Do-Wins. But for $5 more, I'd get these from Rogue. They look better.

Also, VS currently has a sale on Romaleos. Just $99.

I have the old white VS shoes. Not bad. The thing is that Reebok runs so many sales on the legacy lifters that it's worth waiting for them. I got my legacy lifters on sale direct from reebok for $80 with free shipping. I got the VS on sale for $50 plus about $15 for shipping. So for an extra $15 I could've had a world class shoe instead of a shoe that's more of an intro or gym loaner type shoe. I can't imagine the newer shoe is all that great.

If there is a Reebok outlet nearby, there’s almost always a pair of lifters on sale for $80 in some awful color.

But the white ones are excluded from sales. And I needed the white ones. Stop judging me.

Also you can get one or two of the ugly colors on Amazon for about $100 right now.
