It would seem a whole new career path is in order, as having down " Uvalde '22 " on your resume aint going to get you another job in LE.
I gather that, as a community, Uvalde is/was small enough that the local police force had neither the spoons nor the training to deal with such a situation anyway. Seems like the perfect place to get a job as an LEO with the expectation of not doing much beyond issuing a speeding ticket or enforcing a noise ordinance against someone you might even know, on occasion.
There's a strong chance the majority of them will be fine after the pageant is over. I wouldn't be shocked if they have the sympathies of LEOs somewhere else on the map, and most likely in places with a similarly low bar for job expectations.
The "hero" narrative was never anything more than a huge "Shut the fuck up!" for naysayers of the police. Even it will survive this.
