Inadvertantly added not only a rep to a set, but a whole further set. 8X8 just got in my head i suppose.
PR, but any addition is, so i'll just keep on.
This works out well since i traded one PU day to add the second dip day.

Monday 12/28/20 ~ Skipped ahead to 5X5. I'll drop reps and go to +65lbs next session

Monday 2/8/21

I jumped to 80lbs too soon.
Feeling weaker with 80lbs today than on Saturday.
I also intended to drop to 3 sets as the weight goes up.

Plan now is to regroup with 70lbs, and probably work up to 5 reps per set.
I left off with 70lbs for 4,4,4,4,4
Top of my right clavical area started getting a familiar soreness with 5 sets, so i want to limit volume some, and see how things go.

Are dips supposed to be less fatiguing than bench? Are they like pull-ups for example where you can start doing them daily without much interference with SBD?

Or do you have to treat them like a bench slot?

Since i'm doing them weighted, i do them after heavy bench Saturday, and then on Monday to keep space from heavy bench again on Saturday.
I do rows instead on Thursday/light bench day.

I end up going very close to failure with these so far, and i want to keep them from interfering with my heavy single.

Dips (attenuated) & rows

#77

Post by Wilhelm » Mon Mar 08, 2021 4:32 pm

Took some rest from dips.
Right clavicle out toward shoulder was getting some pain from pushing the added weight too much.
I've reduced the weight 50%, and just doing 5 sets of 3 emom for now.
Just going to take my time with these.

Switching out pullups for bent over bb rows.

3/4/21
Bodybuilder bent over rows
165X 8,8,8,8,8

3/6/21
Dips +35X 3,3,3,3,3 emom

3/8/21
Dips +35X 3,3,3,3,3 emom

I saw a picture on the previous page of your log, and I said, "Your traps have traps."

Then I realized that the pic was from four months ago, and it might be awkward to comment only now, so I deleted it. But more than likely, your traps probably still have traps, and I'm kinda jealous.

Thank you, Ren : ) I appreciate it a lot.
I really wish i hadn't overcooked my pullup volume.
Had a great run going most of the last two years.
Dropped one of two days to add a second dip day, and then pushed single session PU volume too much.
Mid January i stopped doing them.

Just have to rest the right arm (bicep area at elbow) for now.
Honestly i had made myself hate the pullups, so i kind of don't mind giving them a break.

I need to stay dedicated to the rows now though.
Thinking they might hit different areas too, and hopefully help preserve gains i've made.

I do need to keep hitting some pullup singles from time to time to see how i'm "healing up"
I'll probably add them back in moderation when i can, and keep the rows as the main pulling accessory for their own long stretch.

Pullups -- especially weighted -- are awesome when they're going well.

I'm dealing with angry elbows right now, so lately I haven't gotten as excited about them as I was a few months ago. Trying to see what hammer curls will do for that issue.

I've never been a huge fan of barbell rows for various reasons, but I've been doing them for the better part of a year out of necessity and they're much more tolerable. Some days I even like them.

I think there's some good payoff in a reasonable smattering of both pullups and rows.
