Then I realize that I have the GD-80, not the GD-90.
I am not-very-seriously thinking about getting the 80 as well, to offer some mid-points between levels on the 90.
What CoCs are you comparing it to?
The GD80 128 setting feels the same as a CoC 1.5. I just closed both. I did the GD after, so maybe it's a little easier.
Just tried and I can't close the CoC 2 all the way right now. My arms are trashed from false grip work yesterday. But the GD80 152 setting feels very close. In the past I thought it was harder than a CoC 2, but it just felt very similar.

I read the handles on the gd80/gd90 don’t touch when closed all the way. IF your using the gd to train for COC’s I would think you’d want to train that end range of motion.
C'mon!
As per my last email

With the extenders on, my handles get within 1 or 2mm of each other when closed at 141, touch simultaneously with the black stops at 170, and touch before the black stops at 198.
The only real complaint about the GD grippers I've seen on nerdy grip forums is that the handles don't touch, so they're poor training for that last bit of ROM if you want to try a CoC or similar. The extenders seem to cover this problem nicely.
That said, while I am convinced they'd be a decent training tool for getting strong on a CoC, I'd still want to mainly practice on torsion spring models if that was a really serious goal. The GD doesn't seem to ramp up in tension as you close in the way torsion spring grippers do.

Whoops, not sure how I missed this.

I’m getting a CoC 3-pack in a few days: Trainer, #1, and #2. I’ve never done grip training before. We’ll see how it goes...

I've found the .5 jumps to be useful.

Yeah... No. Had to order the Guide and Sport. I can close the #1 a couple times with my right, but not with my left. They should come in today, and we’ll see where I’m at in early March.

Picked up COC G, T, 1, 2, 2.5, and 3 on EBay for $65 a couple weeks ago. Guide is ridiculously easy. Trainer is very easy. Could only close the 1 once.
So I ordered the 0.5, 1.5 and coil caddy from Ironmind. That was $40 more than ebay
Can do 10 reps on the 0.5 on my right, and 7 on my left.
I aim to close the 2. Doubtful the 3 will get much use.

I own a CoC 2 and 3. Ive had them for years. Ive never tried a 1, and when i first bought the CoC2 I could half close it. I just kept doing negatives and partials until i could finally close it. Took a couple months i think...
Can close CoC2 pretty easily, but can only partially close CoC3. Ive put my grippers in my gym bag now, hopefully remember to do them more often!

I bought one of these like 30yr ago. Just dug it out and was surprised that they still make them.
What would be the best way to progress this?

The Ironmind site has a couple different PDFs with workouts listed. Basically LP till you can’t, then add negatives and holds.

I recently started using a Bruce Lee Grip machine.
Without doing any grippers, it has gotten me from 1-2 closes on the Captains of Crush #2 gripper to 5 closes. That's over about two weeks. I just do sets on the grip machine while resting from regular exercises.

Those things look cool.

My used COC #1 & #2 are vastly different. The new #1.5 feels like maybe a #1.1. I wish I had ordered it from cannon power works, and gave the a couple $ to test it.

Just got a CoC #1 because my PT said I could train grip on my repaired arm... I'm in love...
There seems to be some science behind grip training and indirect rotator cuff health so hopefully it's actually helping my rehab... if not at least it's fun and my grip won't suffer this whole time...
